The White Stripes

Well it was their first ever album on a major label, so I think this album may have introduced a lot of people to the band.

Although my pressing of the album was on their original Sympathy For The Record Industry label :D

hehe...i heard it on gonzo that the raconteurs are being forced to change their name...hahaha...by some lame ass australian jazz/crap/loser band....some people....

well apart from sounding like i fought piranhas, little people and my doorbell from their past albums i cant think of another band or song off the top of my head. I think the album as a whole (apart from prickly thorn which is such a battle of evermore rip off) is very original in that it sounRAB like nothing but the stripes, but also unoriginal in that it sounRAB like a lot of past stripes.

For those who say Meg is a bad drummer, she didn't even set out to become a drummer. One day Jack was just playing guitar and she was just messing arounf with a beat and he decided he liked it that way. It is meant to be simple, not packed with tons of drum **** that overshadows the rest. For people who say they don't have talent, I just think you're crazy. Jack is an amzing guitarist if you've ever seen him live. He also taught himself. He also write good songs and is a great producer. He is unlike any other musician around now, and I don't just mean that musically.

Flowerhead is fairly right there, I have a lot of their older shows (Bug Jar, Gold Dollar, Magic Stick, etc.) from 1999 and I prefer them to the newer shows. Didn't really like GBMS that much and they play a lot of those songs at large venues and it doesn't really work too well for them all the time, but the odd time it does (Walking With A Ghost single proves that) but GBMS is still a decent album. Self Titled is my favourite though.

you have to be shitting me man, you live in london, the godmother of all concert venues/cities.....i would have an orgasm just by being there, let alone because of the concert offerings......start saving that money dude, banRAB like the white stripes play in london every other weekend.....
and merkaba, i'm at a loss as to why they actually played in my god forsaken country too, but they were by far the biggest/coolest band that ever performed here ( if you dont count the rolling stones, but that's geezer rock ), it was on their way to a big festival in serbia.....i guess they got suckerd into doing it.......i'm keeping my fingers crossed that queens of the stone age will do the cancelled concert at the begining of 2006.....

My knowledge of guitar effect peddals aren't so great but Im pretty sure ZW uses the same one almost constantly. Even if its not a pedal, he seems like a one trick pony. It sounRAB like a friggen strobe light, and its kinda cool but he just rolls deep on chromatic cooooonstantly.

Yeah Jacks got a good voice and all but they look pretty boring when they play live. Two pieces just isnt intersting to watch for their style. I do like the whole only red and white clothing theme though.

Would you want that though? That wouldn't be the stripes to me if they had witty scripted banter. They introduce themselves and thank everyone for coming. If they are playing the tale of the boleweilval (thats spelled wrong) then he asks people to sing along.

I hate people that try to get the crowd rilled up by talking.

Yet another aborted attempt at purchasing the White Stripes, Icky Thump today...this time from Virgin.

Ye GoRAB...when will this torture cease?!

Twas s'posed to be released on Monday last.

Situation desperate.

only my first listen, but i cant help thinking critics who've given this album 5/5 stars are being slightly influenced by the stripes reputation. im a bit underwhelmed by it actually. theres not much of the searing guitars, pounding drums and pacy melodies- just a lot of piano, mandolin, tarabourine and pretty vocals. i understand the need to develop and be diverse- but to me on this first listen- the stripes should stick to what made them the hottest property in rock.
overall- 2/3 out of 5.
