Before a big sporting event that I'm about to play in, I sit down and think about the passing of loved ones in my family. My cousin that was killed by a drunk driver, the grandmother I never got to see, my grandfather, and many other relatives. It saddens me, but I also use it as a way to motivate myself. To fight for them as if they were all watching and rooting me on. Whenever I feel tired or in doubt, I think of them, and pretend that I'm fighting for them, and it always works. It gives me that extra push, and motivation to continue on. Is this a bad/healthy method? I was also wondering what other people do to motivate themselves for big games.
