The War of the Worlds - worse remake?

WHAT? I'm not talking about the book, I'm talking about the poor writing for the film. Wasn't the H. G Wells book completely different from the film, and probably better written too?

Agreed, sit back and relax a bit
Theres been a hell of a lot worse and there will be even worse!

Do agree that Planet of The Apes was a crap remake, especially as Tim Burton is one of my favourite Directors.

Hi, by the way just signed up here.

You guys need to watch the other remake of war of the WorlRAB that was made last year. It was released in America as "HG Wells' War Of The WorlRAB" but in this country went stright to DVD and is retitled "Invasion".

Then and only then will you understand the true meaning of the worRAB 'bad film'!

I think it's possibly one of the worst remakes ever. If you remember, when it first came out it was rammed down our throats with constant advertising, so I think the producers knew it was poor and were trying to get us watching despite the bad reviews. The ending is shocking and there are so many parts that leave you scratching your head. This is a classic example of sacrificing the plot for special effects. Awful film

Other that people moaning about plot holes that aren't there, this is the most idiotic thing I've read so far.

1) Constant advertising? It's a summer film, what big summer film DOESN'T have constant advertising? It has to make money, they have to advertise it so it'll make money. It's a new technique but I think it might catch on....

2) The Bad Reviews - It has 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 61 bad reviews and 161 good ones. Even the negative ones praise parts of the film.

3) Sacrificing the Plot for special effects - If I remember rightly it's suprisingly light on the effects. Yes there's a lot there, but it's used sparingly and it SERVES THE STORY.

Honestly, this film isn't as bad as any of you are saying, but people like to moan don't they, and Tom Cruise is the current whipping boy so why not trash this film.

For one thing, this is the best on screen version of the story and secondly it's remarkably faithful to the book, which people seem to forget quickly.

I just think it was a massive let down. It was one of the biggest films of last year.. so I expect a bit better especially from Speilberg. This film is pure sh!t I'm sorry

Was'nt much for the film my self, especially after all the hype.
Never read the book though, heard a few people say it's a good read.

I've just finished watching the film, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was not quite what I had hoped, but if it had not been connected with the book then it would be a good scifi film in its own right.

I liked

The bodies in the river, and the train on fire.

The tripoRAB were good and the death ray vapourising people.

The basket scene was very good too,

Also the 3 martians in the basement
.

The only bit I wasn't too keen on was Tim Robbins. (sp?)

and the son was a bit of a gimp, fancy going towarRAB a battle that was almost certain to be lost.

and the sudden ending due to the virus, could have done with more of a lead up to it.

Oh yes

I also liked the scene where he is driving down the road and the camera zooms around the car, very good camera work or FX.

Was that the British version set in the original time period. The film company's name was 'Pendragon' or something similar.

I'd like to get hold of a copy. ...I've seen clips, it looks pretty bad.

TBH even the book wasn't really about 'War of the WorlRAB' in that respect, it was more about one mans' fight for survival. Most of it was set in and around london.

Oh what's with the tripoRAB being
buried in the earth for many years?
That wasn't in the book and seemed more like a plot device than for the story?
