The musical version of WOTW is fantastic, better than the original i think. I'd expect the usual tripe that Speilberg comes out with....im not exactly a fan of all his films but i do appreciate some of them.

Apart from the money , why remake something that was close to perfect first time round ?

Must be a low budget affair, as I havent seen any film crews near Chobham lately.

What i know is it is supposed to be the Biggest film budget EVER! - Exceeding that of the Titanic production...

Also i hear that Heff Wayne is currently working on his own

Must agree with you there, the musical version is amazing, still chills me to the bone even now. That for me is War of the WorlRAB.

Well it looks like there may well be three versions coming out next year. I started a thread years ago (one of the first in this forum) about how TWOTW was being remade by this company. It seems that Mr Spielberg is trying to get the jump on this bunch and get his out first, also Jeff Wayne is also making his own version to be released next year and AFAIK it's a full on CGI experience which also coincides with a worldwide re-release of the album with the might of Sony's marketing behind it.

Apparently Jeff Waynes people contacted Pendragon to discuss a possible collaboration, but it's not clear if this has born any fruit, it appears that they are all doing their own versions. I expect the Spielberg version will probably be set in modern day America and will probably feature some mushy storyline before the yanks save the world from the nasty Martians. The Pendragon version is supposed to be an altogether more dark affair set in it's original late 19th century English setting, which they have promised will scare us ****less and will not be "made for kiRAB", the Jeff Wayne version will basically be a film (CGI) version of the musical version.

I am looking forward to all of them, but I expect the Spielberg version will impress with it's special effects etc but fail to impress otherwise (IMO of course ;) ).

Hmm, still no film trucks or actors in Byfleet or on Horsell Common itself.

Me thinks this film may not have any part of the original book in it.

Somehow I don't think the modern day Woking and Horsell Common in any way resemebles that was is depicted in the book, too many people driving about in their fangled horseless carriage contraptions looking for film crews somewhat takes away the late 19th century setting that's required :p

I been waiting years for a remake of this great film, and bringing it up to date.

I just hope that the esence of the orginal will not be lost. I have faith in Spielburg he has doen some great films in the past, lets hope he doesnt dissapoint.

I think it will be a shame if they set in the past, much better if set today.

Also I here, (I think from Digital bits) that they will not be blowing up any "important " buildings, such as the White house, due to the Americans being sensitive about scenes of that nature after 9/11. As an English men, I think it would be a shame if we do not see all sorts of famous buildings blown up.

A photogallery from the upcoming version by Pendragon Pictures can be found here (no images of the Martians yet) .

Speilberg better get his skates on if he wants to get his out first

*sigh* I hate it when these movies always blow up these famous monuments, as if more important things aren't being destroyed. Surely a school full of kiRAB being destroyed makes more of an impact than a meaninless piece of tin like the Statue of Liberty.

But blowing up a school building doesn't have the 'wow' factor blowing up a universally recognised building does (helps if it is spectacular).
Not really seen anything about WOTW before, will have to read up on it!

More info here about the Pendragon production, it also looks like the Spielberg version is going to be set in modern times and will be loosley based on the original story, complete with exploding famous buildings etc.

I am much more looking forward to the Pendragon version which is going to be true to the original story and will hopefully show the absolute terror of a Martian invasion on a world which is at a far lower stage of technological development and has little understanding of anything not of this world, something which a version set in modern times could not acheive as it's all been done before many times (ID4, Mars Attacks etc).
