The visibly, and fast, shrinking packages of food in the markets

I don't see where it matters. Either they're going to raise the
price, or they're going to shrink the package (or both). One
way or another, I'll pay more. I can't think of anything that
I buy (except maybe single-serving yogurts) that it would
matter to me if they shrank. For most things, I probably
wouldn't notice.

Nobody seems to remember that Mr. Hershey used to
adjust the size of his 5-cent chocolate bar to account
for variation in supply costs.

I agree. The only part that matters is that we know it is happening so
that we can determine if we still want it.

I am much more concerned with quality changes. I used to like Cookies
N Cream ice cream by Dryers. But they now call it a fun flavor, and it
is not real ice cream. Some flavors are still real and some are not. I
didn't notice the label when it changed. But I sure did notice the
difference with the first bite. Yuck.

Several years ago, I noticed that most cans of tuna now have soy
protein as an ingredient, which means filler. I won't buy those. I
don't eat tuna as often as I used to, but when I do, I buy tuna that
has tuna, water, and salt. No other ingredients. It does cost more
than the others.

Unfortunately, costs are going up, and the companies try to hide that
fact by changing the amount of product. For a lot of people, it works.
People tend to notice package changes less than the price going up.

Yup. I noticed that sneaky soy a few years ago. No way I am
going to buy that. I then found a pricy brand in oil (Ortiz,
IIRC) and later found the lovely tuna at Costco--in 7-oz cans.

Well, according to the Bumblebee website, my tuna has:
WHITE TUNA, WATER, VEGETABLE BROTH, SALT, PYROPHOSPHATE ADDED.
CONTAINS: TUNA, SOY

The soy is probably in the vegetable broth. It could even be
a euphemism for MSG.

Nope, nothing in there that I find offputting. And it comes in the
3-ounce can that I prefer.

What's with VEGETABLE BROTH in a can of tuna? How much salt?
3oz. of tuna or by weight?

Makes it wet. I buy tuna packed in "water". If some
of that water is vegetable broth, that's fine with me.
Sheldon discovered that Bumblebee claims it makes
the tuna taste milder. That's all to the good.

I don't care. By the time I add mayonnaise, salt,
and green olives, there's enough salt for me.

Doesn't matter. It's enough for one sandwich
for me. More than enough, in fact. By the
time I add onion and celery, it's a big sandwich
and I feel quite full after eating it.
