The Virtues and Flaws of Anime You Enjoy or Dislike

Let's see if I can do this:

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl

Pros:

- Willing to take a garable: Personally I like how different Diamond and Pearl saga is compared to the other sagas. Let's see we have a new rival that's a jerk towarRAB Ash and his training methoRAB. Ash has a pretty decent team this time around, Dawn story is handled pretty well, and Team Rocket has some good stories as well. They also didn't botch Galactic arc as well like they did with Aqua/Magma, but then again those two weren't really as developed fully in the games compared to Team Rocket and Galactic.

- Focus on side characters- Most of the time whenever you see an interesting character, s/he would only appear for one episode, but the latest trend is bring them back with the likes of Paul, Barry, Conway, Zoey, Nando, and Ursula, to name a few.

Good Fights- Well as far as Pokemon goes, I think there fights are pretty good. My favorite is Ash vs Paul at Lake Acuity, not only for how the fight was animated but showing how much Ash has to go in order to defeat Paul.

Cons:

- Kind of drawn out- Really this is one of my complaints. Sure I know at the end of the day that this is just an ad for the video games, and that they're filling out time for Generation V, but I worry that it will effect the League and the Grand Festival like how they had to rush up the Battle Frontier.

- How they handle Brock- When was the last time he did anything important? Really out of all the characters in the main crew, he has the least amount of screen time on him, compared to Dawn, Ash, and the TRio.

I'm actually curious to know your reasons behind theses in particular.

one word..Openion, just like everyone else, diffrent people have diffrent openions on diffrent shows, its simple as that, but then again, I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like to over complicate things.

Darker Than Black - The Black Contractor/Gemini of the Meteor

Pros:

-Great animation: There is rarely an off-model character and for the most part both seasons are close to fully-animated even in non-action sequences. When the action kicks up, particularly on bigger-budget episodes, it runs almost silk-smooth.
-Strong character development: No one at the end of the first season has gone unchanged from what they were when they first appeared (unless it was intentional).
-Careful thought put into series: There has to be a massive series bible laying around BONES somewhere. The information we get over both seasons is quite intriguing and creative, better than it should be.
-Strong English dub: Fantastic, actually, with the extras being just as strong as the mains. It makes the experience even more immersing.
-Character designs: It's clearly an anime but is neither too cartoonish or too realistic. The designs are streamlined and efficient, though some characters are more memorable than others.

Cons:

-Arabiguous endings: BIG TIME. The first season left off with a gaping hole. While the second season filled some of the hole, it left an even bigger one in its place.
-Iffy music. Yoko Kanno's score feels lifeless at times in the first season, and Yasushi Ishii's score in the second season can become rather monotonous. The director wants a "noir" soundtrack, why can't it be pulled off by either the most famous composer in Japan or someone known for massive guitar riRAB? Maybe they oughta hire Martin O'Donnell/Michael Salvatori for season 3, they just demonstrated some serious noir music skills on their most recent Halo soundtrack. At least the OPS/ERAB fit well.
-Mary Sue?-Hei (the main character) at times seems almost too perfect. He's the only Contractor who kept his emotions and doesn't have a renumeration. He kicks ASS. He's so hanRABome nearly every female character in the show falls for him at some point. At least at the end of the first season they give decent reasons for Hei being this way, and the second season makes him a more flawed person.

You're looking for Gary Stu, is the word.

Evangelion pros:
-Good/decent pace for the most part.
-Strong females, Misato in particular.
-Logical character progression. If a character's depressed, they have a reason.
-Character designs. Sadamoto sucks at writing (LOL Gendo with AT Field?), but he knows how to draw women.

Cons:
-Magma Diver
-Everything came from aliens
-Too much religion tone makes people think it actually means something besides looking cool (LOL ADV)
-Some of the most inconsistent art ever in a row (10-13, in particular. Ghibli-Evangelion is lulzy in particular)
-Boring battles for the most part. Rebuild fixed this.
-Inconsistent dub. Especially EoE.

Never said worst cast ever beat...said it had the worst female cast..why again, they've pretty much become fanservice fodder (think the recent mousepad incident proves that)

again its my openion, not like i really care if people agree with it, thats what openions are, your thought/take on somthing.

anywho this is getting of topic. so, later gators!

Naruto/Shippudden

General Opinion - "Meh"

Positives

Fights - The latest fights have been done very nicely and kept me entertained. The animation during these latest fights don't have characters look all hideous anymore and it just makes the fighting that much more enjoyable.

Villains / side characters - Everyone whose not from the Konoha has been a treat to see. (Outside of Karin. Can't stand her) If it weren't for the villains I would not touch this series.

Negatives

Characters - Like I said, the villains and side characters have been great to see. The main characters, leaf village, not so much. (Kakashi and Shikamaru are the only exceptions) And given that Naruto is from the leaf it's only expected that the focus would be around them. The entire leaf ranges from dull to annoying most of the time. With all that being said though, Naruto is the biggest reason why I don't like Naruto. The goofy, underdog, loud mouth role is not for me.

Animation - Way too inconsistent although I haven't seen many inconsistency in Shippudden after the Team Asuma vs Hidan and Kakuzu fight. (skipped the fillers) Part 1 of the series, during some of those great fights (Sasuke vs Naruto 2) characters looked far too hideous for me to enjoy those fights as much as I should've. I get why it was done, but still, that was a turn off for me at one point. I am glad it's not been an issue in Shippudden.

Pacing - Again, I haven't really had much of an issue as of late. Earlier in Shippudden and throughout all of part 1 there were so many things that could've been taken out / reduced to keep things flowing nicely. (long staredowns, long panting, unnecessary scenes/talking, etc....)

Speed Racer, no not the 90's series, nor the Gundam-looking remake, nor The Next Generation, the original!

Strengths:
The sound effects can be interesting, I'd still like to know what made the Auto-Jacks sound effect. Theres also real cars thrown in at times so it can be a treat for car spotters. The dubbing can be amusing aswell as lines like "A secret meeting was being held secretly". The fictional cars are usually cool too.

Weaknesses:
The later episodes became more James-Bond like with less races and more of some villain wanting to conquer something or get treasure. The later episodes were more hecticly pased too, almost like seemed cheaper, and were usually 1 parters. At times it seemed like Indiana Jones but with less characterization (I do like the Indy series). There were less cool cars too.

Yeah, but it doesn't hurt to sometimes explain them.

Personally, I think Bleach has a terrible female cast, aside from perhaps Yoruichi...

Let's take Soi Fon, she pretty much has a very bland personality and always gets hot and bothered by the mere mention of Yoruichi...predictable and obnoxious.

Matsumoto is there for fanservice. Rukia has some nice moments, but it kind of gets annoying when she gets obsessing over here "nii-sama."

Do I even have to get started with Hinamori?

Now, I don't watch One Piece but Bleach is pretty guilty of the fanservice moments. Just look at Hallibel...

I was mainly thinking of the good guys...yea, the female villians are pretty bland.

as for Rangiku, yeah her & Orihime are just there for fanservice, but heck even rangiku's funny,unlike Orihime, then you have strong female characters like Yuroichi & Rukia, and yea, soi-fon may not have much to her, but she's a decent fighter, & her zanpatou is pretty cool. I like Bleaches female cast cause its the most diverse, I agree theres many that still are 1 dimensional & yet to be flushed out, but we have learned that they have basic diffrencses in ther personallities.

then you have toraboy characters like tautski & comedy relief like chizuru, over all a pretty decent female cast, given many are still 1 or 2 dimensional but they all play there roles very well.

One Piece doesn't have much of a female cast, and lately the main character Nami has been used increasingly for fansercvice, & now we have the ecchi mousepaRAB for one piece, wich proves even the people at SJ see them as nothing but anime call girls, wich isn't really a good thing from there character perspective, heck even if they were to make bleach mousepaRAB, I already dislike Orihime & don't care much for Rangiku, & thankfully bleach would still have respectable females....One Piece has basically taken all there main gals & said here ya go boy's here's your ecchi gals! (who neeRAB a good heronie wheen youve got boobies!) Seriously One Piece does not have a good female cast...heck even naruto with its whiny, preppy or timid girls is alot better then One Piece's female cast...But I digrese.

So One Piece's females don't qualify as a good cast, despite the fact that they're smarter than most of the males on the Strawhat crew, the fact that they can hold their own in battle against a foe and win against them. So just look at the fact that they have giant boobs and those mousepad as a reason for FANSERVICE? Really, Nami only acts like that because she knows people will do anything for her, sort of like how Lupin will do almost anything to be near Fujiko. As for Robin, she dresses more conservatily than Nami has. Hell, I will even go as far as to defend people like Conis, and Vivi whom happen to be my favorite characters in the show as well.

Your argument makes no sense.

Every female, regardless of anime, live-action or any media, will be used in fanservice items. Using that as a complaint against anything particular is naive and frankly durab. Most of the time, the creator does not authorize it personally. That is the company he/she is published to, or sold the rights to.

Also, Tatsuki? When was the last time she showed up? And being relevant? None of the females in Bleach have proven to be competent compared to their males, while Nami and Robin have proven to be invaluable with their unique skills.

And Naruto is even worse. The only useful female is Tsunade and Granny Sand village. Every other female falls into obscurity or being fodder to spark false emotion (Hinata being the main case.)

Lol, soundmonkey, you should've left it alone at it's your opinion.

Fullmetal Alchemist

General Opinion - Pretty good

Positives

Characters - Despite my hatred for Ed and Al the rest of the characters are solid. All the side characters bring a little extra "oomph" to the table. Mustang being my favorite character in the series, and his comedic side was unexpected had me cracking up. (Warehouse 13 comes to mind)

Animation - Bones nailed it home with this series. The animation sequences were great to see (Ed and Greed), and the colors are prettiful.

Cast - Again, I haven't seen the sub, but I like how Funimation handled the voices here. Nobody was overbearing or made my ears cringe.

Negatives

Ed and Al - They're the only thing I have a beef with. Don't get me wrong, I like how close the 2 of them are, and Ed is definately funny, but when Al starts whining and Ed becomes bratty I just get so fed up with them. I nearly wanted to drop the series when they met Marko/Marco. (Hurray for Scar in those episodes)

Vandread

General opinion: two thurabs up

Strengths
* Great CG animation which meshes well with the 2D stuff
* Intense action sequences
* Funny, engaging characters
* Funny romantic tanglings between Hibiki and Dita
* Very original premise - Gundam + Tenchi Muyo + "battle of the sexes" angle

Weaknesses
* MAJOR plot hole towarRAB the end where
they bring back Gascogne after she sacrificed herself midway through the second series - they even spend much of the subsequent episode in mourning for her
* Off-model episode occurs early in the series (episode two, to be precise)

Paniponi Dash

General opinion: goofy, cute and fun

Strengths
* Random, non-sequitur, joke-a-minute humor in background as well as foreground
* Large cast = character diversity
* Ichijo, the class representative
* Episode 25 - nuff said

Weaknesses
* Running gags get tiresome midway through
* English dub wasn't ADV's best - preferred Himeko's Japanese voice
* New viewers may accuse it of being an Azumanga Daioh knockoff early on

Yes, Indeed I should have, ecspecially since my openion is diffrent then that of the MASS HIVEMIND! You'll never take me..NEVER! lol.

but anywho back on topic...Going with a series that thankfully won't get mine or anyone elses panties in a wad...Moribito!

Pros
-Nice BackgrounRAB & Artwork
- Good for people who like Historical Ficiton/Fantasy
- Decent English Dub
- Strong Heroine

Cons
-Boring at times
-a few pointless eps
- Bland supporting cast (with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions)
-Bland Villians (they weren't really even villians just confused royals, star readers etc.)

Samurai 7

General opinion: freaking epic

Strengths
* Great sword fight scenes
* Strong female lead characters (Kirara and Komachi)
* Kikuchiyo the comic relief
* Episodes 14, 25 and 26
* Stayed true to the Kurosawa film (at least for the first half)

Weaknesses
* The background music (feels like I'm watching Inuyasha)
* The ugliest off-model episode I've ever seen (episode seven)

I think it is INCREDIBLY unfair to criticize One Piece for this and then turn around actually give Bleach a thurabs up for its female cast.

Bleach is not any better. Characters like Rengiku are so fanservicey that they make Nami and Robin look like normal characters, and really Nami and Robin are not all fanservice. They may have large boobs but that's about as far as it goes. (there are a few fanservice scenes, of course, but most of them are comedic.)

Why are you weighing the qualities of an anime or manga based of off the merchandise?, that has absolutely to do with the series itself (if its going to be like that then you might as well judge stuff based of the fan art there is for it or something). Besides, being hot or being in sexy/fanservice scenes does not equal bad character in any way whatsoever.

Your fanservice comment was more than ignorant enough to be a general criticism.

Zeta Gundam Pros:
-One of the best pacing for a 50 episode show, especially Gundam
-Papitmus and Haman are good masterminRAB while also being excellent pilots
-Good meld of old and new cast
-Pretty good battles for its age
-I like the soundtrack, although the trumpet whenever someone dies got annoying when Tomino started his endgame @_@

Cons:
-A lot of the villains were one note or disappeared for like half the show, only to die like 3 episodes later
-Jerid being a complete loser, through and through
-Char didn't really do anything in the last fight
-Reccoa. Just...Reccoa
-Camille suddenly going Super Saiyan makes it eh
-Dub's bad. It's not even Ocean A-team to make it average
