Since ive already covered don bluths disasterpiece, Thumbelina, it would only make since to cover the rest of his early 90s classicres:evil:
Rock-a-Doodle: This one is not as bad as most people say, but it definately has alot of problems.
Pros: My favorite characters were the villains; Grand Duke of Owls, Hunch and the fox. It helps that Christopher Plummer puts alot of fun and mischief in his character. I also like the animation (except for the last 2 minutes of the film). And i like the idea of chanticleer being an elvis impersonator and being controlled by exec meddling.
Cons: Whew! Where to start? The story was all over the place, most of the characters were really annoying, patous's narrating felt tacked on and distracted the experience from the audience. Most of the songs range from ok to just plain cheezy.
overall, its not a terrible movie, but if i were in charge, i wouldve made ALOT of changes to improve the story.
A Troll in Central Park: I must confess, i used to enjoy this movie as a kid. Ive even made repeat viewings out of plain ingnorance. Looking back on it now, its about as credible as a rejected barney the dinosaur episode script.
Pros: The only two things i enjoyed were Cloris Leachman as Queen Gnorga (i even like her song a tad) and the animation. Thats all.
Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE. There was little to no story, the characters are really agravating and childish. The whole thing felt like a stretched out teletubbies episode. EVen teletubbies has more credibility than this! The songs were forgettable, the whole green message makes captain planet more subtle.
Overall, this is a painfull experience. Im shocked that Don Bluth (who went on to say he wanted to revolutionize animated storytelling for the masses) would sink to this low. Maybe it was executive meddling, who knows?
The Pebble and the Penguin: Ah yes, the Happy Feet of the 90s. Except, it was a sappy, lovey-dovey piece of unicorn doo-doo w/ no substance.
Pros: Um, the voice acting was alright, i guess. SOme of the animation was nice to look at. The melodys to the songs were catchy.
Cons: Crappy songs, predictable story, a very annoying protagonist, most of the animation was sloppy, Tim Curry tries his best to thrive in his stinker, but fails.
Its a little bit better than TICP, but its still not worth a drinking game.
