I wish I could read the book, but I can't afford books right now. Maybe I'll find it in my library.

Me too. I always though Kirsten Dunst was a good actress and she did a great job as Lux.

I own the book, love it. Sofia Coppola's movie is brilliant as well. She captures the mood and tone of the book really well. I thought Kirsten, James, Josh, and A.J. were well cast.

I didn't hear anything "harsh", but just the same, nothing to take offense over

...they were just people's opinions. And you're absolutely right, some people love it and some don't so...yeah.

I've always wanted to read the book but I haven't yet. I love, love the movie. Sofia is a wonderful director and I thought Kirsten Dunst and AJ Cook were good in the film. It's still one of my favorites but my mom doesn't like me watching it because she thinks it's too depressing and I'm only fourteen (fifteen soon) but I love films like this. Good, independent films are a nice break away from the more mainstream, teenybopper comedies about love that I get suckered into seeing with my friends.

I think as he got older he really started to understand just how much he felt for Lux. I think her death really brought his true feelings to the surface.

I loved The Virgin Suicides back when it came out. Heck, I still love it now. Lux is my favorite character, and my all time favorite line is at the begining of the movie: "You don't even know how bad life gets."
"Oviously doctor, you've never been a 13 year old girl."

good movie and good directing style....good job for her first movie directing.... I thought the actors and actresses did a good job too in this movie. This movie is memorable cause it was different.

I thought the book was great. The movie wasn't that bad...it captured the who essence of the novel...but, too me, there's something about the book that makes it better.

If you haven't read the book, you must. Because it's like the movie but so much more...

Wow, what harsh reviews

Ever since I first saw it I've been obsessed, and the book was just as powerful. I guess you just have to have a feeling for it, and if you don't like, I guess the love for it (like others have) just won't hit you. Some people love it, and some people don't.

I had read the book for a very long time whan I first saw the movie. I haven't been disappointed. They were really great to my own point of view.
I like a lot Kirsten so choosing her for Lux's part wasn't a bad idea at all. She was amazing. But I still think the book has a much more psychological depth. Without the book and knowing the 'real' story maybe i wouldn't have liked it as much.

That's my opinion aswell. JH couldn't deal with the feelings he had for Lux. He was not used to have those feelings. He was young and careless and he couldn't deal with love.

That was what I loved the most about the movie. To me, it was the story of the fascination those boys had for those girls. Though their eyes, the girls were misterious and ethereal. They didn't belong in this world.

Those are very tough questions.
I think Cecilia needed psyquiatric help or support. Apparently, there were no reasons for her suicide, but she tried more than once and she succeded the second time. I can only think she had a psychological problem that needed help.
I can't blame anyone. I can't blame the girls' parents because they weren't looking to hurt their daughters. They were very strict but they thought that was in the girls' best interest. They made mistakes, but I think they didn't mean to hurt the girls.
That's also something I like about the movie: we don't have the good and the bad guys. People make mistakes and their mistakes have consequences, but I couldn't really blame them because their hearts were in the right place.

I love this movie. I also want to read the book.
I love the music by Air: "My Playground Love". I also adored Kirsten Dunst in the movie.

I saw this movie twice I thought it was a good movie. the ended freaks me out I haven't read the book but need to. I also love Kirsten in it!

Maybe JH left because he started to feel for Lux and he couldn't deal with it. Because in the future we see he's quite affected by her death and you can see she had a huge impact on him. I don't know.
