The Village

Ah, The Village. What a waste of time that film was!

The main problem was that they shouldn't have billed it as a thriller, they should have called it a mystery/drama instead (or a comedy - tell me I wasn't the only one who laughed during the stabbing scene? Come on, it was ridiculous!).

The acting was appalling, the plot pathetic, the twists predictable. There were no edge-of-your-seat fingernail biting moments, no shocks, no suspense.

It was, in short, mind-numbingly dull. The director, cast and crew all need shooting.

I rather enjoyed it. A few good creepy moments and had some empathy for the characters. Would have liked to have seen Joaquin Phoenix more, get more of a feel for his character, but overall it was a nice way to spend a few hours.

I also liked Sixth Sense, but I hated Signs.

On the whole I really enjoyed this, and think that rather than try to figure out the twist, I just suspended disbelief. However, I took a good guess at what might happen, but I think it was executed pretty well. 'Signs' was awful, and such a disappointment, so this redeemed M Night in my eyes. Joaquin is a fantastic talent, and has managaed to completely overcome his brother's legacy. Adrian brody was just there for the paycheque though! Way over the top.

I loved Signs, but hated this. I thought this was doing great, until the 'twists' - it was too obvious for me. Aside from anything else, the photo they show has somebody in a tie and suite - it looked well out of place.

There is some good direction in this, nevertheless - there's a scene which runs without cuts for a good few minutes.

Firstly, sorry for coming late to this thread I was just browsing and came across it.
The whole point of `The Village`I read in some interview somewhere with the director , Shyamalan, is it is all to do with America and 9/11 and the aftermath of those events. The situation is that the `Elders`of the village create a sense of terror in the village by creating `things` that don`t exist i.e the creatures in the wooRAB. This is supposed to reflect the `coloured alerts` in the USA. The `Village idiot` the Adrien Brody role is the one who laughts at the sounRAB of the creatures during the funeral meal at the beginning yet the `creatures` cause his downfall.(I won`t say how in case it spoils it for anyone)
The blind girl makes her way to the `towns`against all odRAB and yet when she makes the contact with the guard and he goes to get the medication the other guard warms him about having `conversations`
Now, to be honest the film bored me senseless, however I have a friend in th US who loves Shyamalans films. They raved about `Signs` saying it wasn`t an alien invasion film but a film about a man who`d lost his faith and how he rediscoveres it!!!!!!
In the same light `The Village` is not a film about a village but a film about a blind girl.
Again I`m sorry for bringing this up and maybe boring you all.
Take care and Happy Easter :)

Ok, thanks for bringing this up again.... hmmm......

I hated Signs, it was incredibly funny though.

Sixth Sense and Unbreakable=great.

The Village; hmm... I'd like to see it again to make my mind up.....

The highlight of this film was when my phone went off in the cinema much to the entire bored audiences amusement. Normally you`d be insulted if you interutped a film, not laughed at.
