The value of ?H° for the reaction below is -482 kJ. Calculate the heat (kJ)

released to the surroundings.? The value of ?H° for the reaction below is -482 kJ. Calculate the heat (kJ) released to the surroundings when 12.0 g of CO(g) reacts completely.

2CO(g) + O2 -> 2CO2

so for 2 moles of CO -482kJ of heat is released

for 12.0 g we must find the moles of how much CO is in 12.0g

m = 12.0
M = CO = 12.01 + 16 =28.01 g/mol
n = 0.428mols

so for 2mols -482kJ is released...

make a ration 2/482 = 0.428/x

x = -103.24
so approx. -103kJ of heat is released
