The kidnapped soldiers are not really the reason for the renewed offensive in Gaza and what's going on in Lebanon. Since the 2000 Israeli pullout of southern Lebanon, Hez has been stocking up rockets (obviously) and training many recruits. The Israelis took this as an opportunity to put Hez out of business for a few years

as for Gaza, Shalit's capture was used to try and get rid of the problem of Qassam missles landing in Israeli towns in the south since the Gaza pullout
