The Truth of Red Steel

So I bought Red Steel today because I got a Gift Cert to best buy for x-mas. I have read/heard many many times that the controls for the game blow and ruin the whole experience.

This is absolutly not true!

I have no idea why everyone thinks this. I have only beat the first 2 levels mind you. But I had already bought and beat CoD3, and the controls aren't really that different from those controls. I made it through the first 2 levels without getting shot much. Running from cover to cover stalking the bad guys with my shot gun. It was simple. Anyone that has had a hard time with these controls must just be sooo used to button mashing that they have no real hand-eye co-ordination.

I've heard there's a one to two second delay when sword fighting?

I don't know about you but I'd prefer those swings to be realtime.

It seems like a decent rental though....I doubt I'd wanna drop $50 on it.

It's definitely not as bad as a lot of people, and some media outlets make it out to be. That being said, it's also not that great of a game. It has a few redeeming qualities, and Ubisoft is definitely onto something here. The groundwork for what could be a stellar game has been layed...we'll possibly see a big improvement with Red Steel 2. The controls have a steep learning curve, and take a while to become comfortable with...but as you go on, get used to them (and their multiple shortcomings), the game becomes pretty enjoyable. It's not worth paying $50 for imo, but it's definitely worth a rent.

I think everyione played it on launch night like me and hated it cause they were tired, once I picked up it and played it again, I loved it.

It's like Wii boxing, timing is key.us If you flail wildly you get your assail kicked... If you time it right it is easy to pull off mad combos and win easily

I just hated the fact that the screen has no camera-control. Just pointing at an edge is awkward and forces you to lose your target for adjusting the field of vision. Plus, the speeds at which the screen moves toggle between slightly too slow and wildly too fast.

Poor execution, in my opinion.

Then you just haven't learned the controls very well. I can run into a room with a bunch of people and spin and shoot to take them all out.

Although I do hope someone makes a shooter JUST like a PC. Fix your arm in one spot, don't let you move it around the screen, so that when you want to turn you just move the curser in the direction.

I agree. It can be done, but CoD3 has a much better scrolling speed. Its very easy to get disoriented in red steel.

More drawbacks of the game are the weak sword fights and cheesy phrases the enemies yell - "Murderer!"

I've played COD3 and Red Steel, COD3 is smoother because the Autoaim or whatever doesn't seem to be there like it is in Red Steel, but the Red Steel swords fights. I'd probably buy Red Steel over COD3 if I wanted an FPS.

I also thought it was easier to get disoriented in COD3 than RS

i want an FPS where the crosshair stays in the center of the screen, and your wii remote moves your view around, just like quake or something. if you ran to the side of the wii remotes sensor, you could hold down B or something and reset your remote, just like a mouse.
