This is more of a question than anything

How many people outside of Canada have taken the time to listen to this band?
They sell out major festivals and concert venues all over our country yet they have never achieved mainstream success, most Canadians will tell you that they hate them because they are pimped so regularly on Canadian Radio due to our Canadian Content laws.

Road Apples and Up To Here are probably their best albums

38 Years Old: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbIZ1IuqCzU
Home-made video, just wanted people to get decent sound quality

Fiddlers Green: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DzRDGeOgWw
Please excuse, this was live

Blow At High Dough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc8fXaTqmWE

Just wanted some opinions on our most famous band

They're played on the radio quite a bit here, I never cared for them much. Some of the songs i'd turn up if they were on, some i'd turn off. They're okay

It's been a while since the Hip thread has been bumped eh?

Anybody have thoughts on the new album?

I'm enjoying it, way better then the last few releases.

this is all very true. those two are their best albums. the CRTC laws did get them played everywhere too.

the OTHER reason people find them annoying is because they pretty much pulled an ac/dc and put out basically the same album (fully completely) for a decade.

Ive listened to them a few times, but never really followed through as I wasnt that impressed. I do in fact LOVE the song Gord Downie did on the new City and COlour album, Bring me your love. Sleeping Sickness.

I'm Canadian and I can honestly say that they don't do anything for me. My parents are huge fans of them, but I think it may just be an age difference. I've never met someone under the age of 23 that would listen to them on an active basis, whereas people over the age of 35 seem to flock to them.

I'm surprised that no one really likes them. I realize that I am a little bit biased growing up in Toronto and Muskoka (cottage country), but I think they have some great songs.

ie. Wheat Kings, At the Hundredth Meridian, New Orleans Is Sinking, 38 Years Old.

If I get a chance I'll post some videos.

PS.
Thrice! is it always about City and Colour with you! hahah!

Thanks for remindng me of the band, the hundredth meridian is a supurb tune, i listened to them a lot while i was travelling Australia with a Canadian friend. Must get some downloaded!
