The Top 5 Greatest Metal CD's

  • Thread starter Thread starter BTMF
  • Start date Start date
Arranged alphabetically by artist, because if I tried to rank them I would never be able to decide:

Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale
Meshuggah - Catch 33
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood
Tool - Lateralus

Aside from MoP, which was the album that got me (and countless others) into metal and therefore enjoys a personal bias from me, my faves tend to focus more on the atmospheric, recent strains of metal, as opposed to the older, riRAB-and-solos-oriented variants.

Exactly that, one of their lesser albums. Not as egregious an error as calling Death Magnetic the best Metallica album, but noteworthy.

Between the Buried and Me - Colors

The Human Abstract - Nocturne

Lame cover, so this is the one I'll exclude.

The Fall of Troy - Manipulator

Cowboys From Hell - Pantera

Pantera is getting way too much love in this thread.

I'm not going to even attempt to list the greatest metal cd's ever but I'll just do my personal top five:

At the Gates- The Red in the Sky is Ours
Mercyful Fate- Don't Break the Oath
Phlebotomized- Immense, Intense, Suspense
Nagelfar- Hunengrab im Herbst
Discordance Axis- The Inalienable Dreamless

1. Ozzy Ozzbourne/Black Sabbath- Speak of the Devil(live)
2. Megadeth- Countdown to Extinction
3. Dio- The Very Beast of Dio
4. Metallica- Ride the Lightning
5. Pantera- Vulgar Display of Power

:banghead:

I recently got a load of Ozzy Sabbath (ta molecules!) and Paranoid is still top 2 for me, Master of Reality might pip it though, riff-tastic.

This is in no particular order:

1. Deliverance - Opeth
2. City - Strapping Young Lad
3. The Arrival - Hypocrisy
4. The Politics of Ecstasy - Nevermore
5. Light of Day, Day of Darkness - Green Carnation
