It’s almost been a year since Toonami was cancelled and this moratorium on discussion has gone on long enough. I hope that, since so much time has passed, people will have learned to respect one another’s opinions and will be willing to engage in discussions without resorting to name calling. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this thread and infractions will be given out if people fail to treat one another properly. If you took the time to read the rules, you would know that respect is taken very seriously here. Let’s keep things civil. With that out of the way, feel free to use this thread as your general catch-all thread about this former block. Discuss what you liked. Discuss what you didn’t like. You can even talk about its cancellation and whether or not it will ever come back. But as I’ve said: Keep. Things. Civil.

Toon Zone’s Toonami Forum On Toonami’s Final Day​
 
I remember seeing Toonami when it was hosted by Moltar from Space Ghost Coast to Coast. I remember when I came home from school I would put it on Cartoon Network so that I can watch all the Toonami shows which lead up to a new episode of DBZ. Man, I find it so hard it was canceled just like that and already has been almost a year.
 
Well, my first experience with Toonami came in 1998 or so and I would watch it here and there because I liked the shows on the block, but I had better memories with it between 2005-2007 or so, it's a shame it's gone. I know it was mistreated back before it's death so maybe it's for the best that it's gone but a lot of people grew up with Toonami and will always have fond memories of the good years.....and the bad. Toonami helped me to fall in love with Naruto and DBZ :)
 
Ahhh, Toonami. The Block that started my love of animation, I remeber coming home after school sitting on the coach, Turning on the Tube & Sitting down seeing Moltar start the show & sitting from start till finish, then later on Cam TOM, at 1st I wondered why moltar had been replaced but, then I agreed the Change was for the better. TOM was Probably one of the best hosts of any block in TV History! So I continued to watch toonami Until that Fateful day on September 20, 2008 when the Revolution finally came to a Close.:crying:

& of Course it Gave me many of my favriote shows over the years, DBZ, Sailor moon, Gundam, Tenchi Muyo, Thundercats, YuyuHakusho, Kenshin, Samuri Jack, Megas, & So so many more!:D

(P.S. I to am doing things in september to Remeber Toonami, these however mostly consist of Personal anime marathons & Tribute AMV's:sweat:)
 
Wow, I forgot about how they aired reruns of old Thundercats and Batman: TAS episodes, that was really early on but it was definatly cool to see. I like how it became almost all anime, it gave anime a home in the U.S that was aired at a respectable time instead of the middle of the night and 4 in the morning........
 
My fondest memories of Toonami are those of watching what I consider their "Golden Fleece" schedule:

4.0-Sailor Moon
4.5-ReBoot
5.0-Dragon Ball Z
5.5-Gundam Wing
6.0-Tenchi Muyo!
6.5-Outlaw Star

Of course, I'd be remiss not to mention that it was Toonami who brought us......

We will probably never get another block that will last as long as Toonami did, I know a lot of people felt that YAH was going to be the next big thing, but after like 6-8 months it was gone and now all we have is Crushzone (which does not have much of a following).
 
Toonami's staying power came because the block concentrated on connecting with the viewers. Few other blocks in TV history went to the lengths Toonami did to connect with viewers, by using the appeal of the block and turning it into a mini-culture, a few hours of an American TV event, to get you to watch the shows.

None of Cartoon Network's blocks today have that same sort of appeal.
 
To tell you the truth, I didn't appreciate Toonami until I was a junior in high school. I was too young and immature to enjoy Thundercats and Ronin Warriors because "they were too old!" If I could do it again, I'd would've been a better fanboy.
 
This Toonami lineup shall rule eternally:

8.0 - Teen Titans (new episodes)
8.5 - Justice League Unlimited (new episodes)
9.0 - Megas XLR (new series)
9.5 - Yu-Yu Hakusho (new-to the U.S. anyway-episodes)

Beleive it or not, there was a time when watching Cartoon Network on Saturday nights was the thing to do. This was the only time in my life (so far) when I would go out on a Saturday night and have to record as many as 3 programs in the same evening. I'd often watch them as late as 10:30pm.
 
I didn't even have Cartoon Network until 2003 so the fact that the block still drew me in says a lot, considering 2003-onwards are considered to be years of decline for the block.

Toonami on Saturday nights were spectacular at periods. I still treasure fall 2005 a lot as a great time in Toonami history, with Bo^7, Justice League Unlimited, Teen Titans, Naruto, and Zatch Bell! providing consistent entertainment.
 
What made Toonami special was the sum of its parts.
The shows + the packaging + the little extras like the video game reviews, the interviews, and the fanart showcase.
The presentation really connected with the audience and made them feel like part of the experience.

Looking back, I'm still disappointed how the block was left on auto-pilot a few times and how it was ignored during it's later years. But at least it got to say its goodbyes, which is more than most blocks get to do.

So here we are almost a year after Toonami ended, and I have to wonder: is Cartoon Network really better off without it? I'd have to say no.
Action Flicks and You Are Here didn't even last a year. Naruto and One Piece are gone.

I wouldn't mind some kind of hour long action block that airs one hour before Adult Swim on weeknights. Or maybe a one hour block on weekdays from 5-6 or 6-7pm. It doesn't even have to be Toonami, just something, anything, but they can't even give us that.

I've moved on, for the most part, but I still like to remember the good old days.
 
I would'nt say it started to Decline that much in 03, although it was around that time it got botted to Saturdays...(Darn U Miguzi!)


But Even when it was Saturday Nights Only I watched it religiously, & even when People Compained about The Tom 4 look in its last Year I still enjoyed it...Although the line-up the last 3-4 months or so wasn't alll that great & I mostly watched it For Naruto & The Occasional Blue Dragon & Samuri Jack reruns if there was nothing else on...Still Toonami Was The one of the Blocks that I belive made many into Hardcore Anime or Overall Animtion fans, It was A great Block & even in its bad times it was alot better then the other junk on TV this Decade.:D

& I think what i miss the most, it what others have said about the Blocks interactivity, TOM & CO really Cared about the Fans & showed it, I mean Even during the Final Block he Gave Us a Moving little Speech. Wich Really say's somthing about the People Behind Toonami.:anime:

We generally don’t allow people to advertise their personal creations outside of their signatures, but I suppose you could post it. I just don’t want such things to become the focus of this thread.

Regardless, I first began watching Toonami back when Moltar was the host, but I wasn’t really a fan of the block until “Sailor Moon” and “Dragon Ball Z” were added. Back then I had no idea what anime was, but my older sister knew all about anime and she convinced me to watch it – something I appreciate to this day. I watched the block consistently for the next few years and I really enjoyed “Tenchi Muyo!” when it was added, but for one reason or another, I stopped watching the block around 2003. I think “Megas XLR” was the last show that I consistently watched that was on the block, and even then, I was probably watching re-runs that aired during normal programming hours. I did enjoy “Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo”, but I missed too many episodes and I ultimately stopped watching it.
 
I think I got Toonami back around the time TOM 1 was the host, since my house didn't get CN until the PPG were a new show on the network. Didn't pay that much attention to it until they did that campaign where TOM 1 was killed off and replaced with TOM 2, but I also remember that there was a morning block on Saturdays and the Midnight Run.

But yeah, I loved watching DBZ, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo back then, of course my viewing of it was limited because at the time, the only TV that had it was the one in my parents room and the living room. IIRC, it wasn't until Dragon Ball started to air that every TV in my house got CN as a whole, but I forgot when that came along.

A part of me that felt like Toonami was dead around the time it got reduced to 2 hours, the final nail in the coffin was when One Piece was taken off the air and the only new thing on the block was Naruto.

Toonami was something, I'll tell you that, and I thought it was nice that block survived for 10 years, that's an accomplishment right there. I practically loved every show on that block, and they did help define Toonami brand name and what to expect from it.

& back on Topic: As others have said, I to am Wondering When/IF CN will get anohter Good decently long lasting aciton Block, Action Flicks & YAH are all but Gone...All though I guess YAH Could Eventually Come back. Personally I'd like to see another 4 hour action Block on Friday or Saturday nights, 2 hours of anime & 2 hours of Action toons! that would be Great!:anime:
 
I thought (and perhaps this was na?vet? on my part) that You Are Here had the potential to be Cartoon Network's next significant action cartoon block, I really thought that Cartoon Network had placed a ton of stock into YAH and was going to support the block 100%...they didn't. YAH wasn't even around for 6 months. It's a shame, because I thought that YAH could have been a CN staple the way that Toonami used to be, but the folks in charge of the network didn't even give YAH a sufficient amount of time to evolve.
 
Yeah, CN seems to be going through their ADD phase, Rapidly Putting & sometimes Taking off shows & Blocks.

I mean the Closest thing they have to a Staple Right now is HarHarTharsdays, wich Although an OK Block is kind of Sub-par compared to past ones like Toonami, CartooCartoon Fridays, Miguzi, etc.....But I would'nt Give Up hope On YAH Just yet, I mean From What I hear most of the Action Series in the Fall Are Premireing with New Eps on Fridays...So Who Knows, Mabye CN's Going to Make YAH a seasonal thing, Kind of like they do with Goosebumps, It'll Stay on For a short time & then Comeback when new seasons & Shows are ready to Premire...At least thats what im hopeing for.:sweat:
