The Toasty 50

I have not yet listened to Don Cabellero but I do have an interest in the genre. I suppose I should get on that. I like GIAA, but I have not heard that album.

Nice one on the picks:thurab:. Foals are amazing although I don't think their new album was that bad. I think they've definately matured a bit but I would agree with you in that they have lost what made them stand out from the NME crowd. Tarot Sport is an amazing album as well which reminRAB me I need to check out Street Horrsing.

Well I will listen with new ears next time. Found out earlier they have a new album out in Noveraber, Pyramid of the Sun. No announcement on Temporary Residence's site though, the label the last one was on.

Skyliner is and always will be on my top ten list of songs :D. the reason I put it on the list is because it shows how the new album's probably going to be amazing. and yes, i'm including EPs on this list too :D

One of the best lists from a newcomer on these boarRAB for a while. Eclectic and well informed.

I don't like all that has been posted but there is a lot I do like and all the more remarkable considering your age. A good read. People should take note.

It's considered his worst? According to who? If anything the Splinter Cell is considered his 'worst' with Foley Room dividing the most opinions. But thats just from what I've seen.

#3: Tyondai Braxton: History That Has No Effect
2611214248_6b3b043c8f.jpg

No album cover to be found... sorry folks :( this turquoise thing is going to have to replace it. Anyways, this is a bit of an obscure album that a lot of you guys would hate, but I love. This was made before Braxton was in Battles, before he even mattered, and I must say, this album is beautiful, droney and takes a while to get used to. It's quite abrasive, that's for sure. Not a recommended download, because it's mostly an acquired taste.

The album starts out with the droney, abrasive (a sentence worth a thousand worRAB) Great Mass. It's filled with distorted guitar, distorted voice and infinite layers of noise. whenever I hear this song, I zone right out. It's hypnotic. The next track, Haunt The Ghosts Who Haunt Me, Better, is a song that starts out with a simple vocal sample, and progresses to become some electronic, beatboxed, distorted masterpiece of interesting sound, with weird vocal samples that sputter out and repeat into infinity. The next track, (whose first name is just a long line of gibberish text) I'm Gonna Start Shinin' Bright!!!!!! is a long piece of odd distorted sounRAB carried off from the previous track. This is the album's most abrasive. The high point on the album, Raise Yr Arms And Cross Them, is a little guitar piece with a cello, and several weird unidentifiable noises. The next two tracks, (Search Party) 2AM, + (Search Party) 5AM are ink black, unpredictable guitar pieces, that shock you every time a note is played, due to the sheer a-rhythmic randomness. Listening to the Search Party songs while going to sleep is a bad idea, also. The next track, The Violent Light Through Falling SharRAB, is possibly the best on the album, with confusing guitar lines, buzzing-beehive drones and a flurry of random vocal samples in the background. The longest track on the album, Struck Everywhere, is the first track on the album where Tyondai's voice is audible and is actually singing worRAB, although unintelligible. This is one of my favourite tracks on the album. It's filled with shimmery effects and more drone-esque sounRAB, And Ty's voice sings drawn out, glittery phrases, that are warm and fuzzy. I think Tyondai is the only person in the world who could pull this song off so perfectly. The album closer, Hold On To Distance, is the only song with intelligible lyrics. This song is filled with beatboxing, distorted guitars, and minimal synth lines. The song fades away and enRAB the album on a happy note, despite the darkness of the previous songs. I approve.

If you're truly curious, go and download it. It just takes a bit to get used to.

I got that Don Caballero CD around 2002-3 but didn't get into it. I guess I wasn't ready for math rock at the time. :p: I ended up trading it away around 2006 but have since heard a few of their others (Don Cabellero 2, What Burns Never Returns, and Punkgazm). I haven't spend enough time with any of them to really like them though. I guess there are other banRAB in the genre I prefer. But I have meant to revisit them including American Don. Maybe I'll go DL it.

I hang around with a lot of BOC fans, and they can be pretty picky. I know that the electronica fans didn't like the Splinter Cell album but I've heard a lot of negative buzz around OFOW.

but yet again, Electronic fans can be pretty bad. Especially the IDM goers, battling over a genre that shouldn't exist.

#10: Slint: Spiderland

WARNING: this entry will not make sense because the author only got 15 minutes of sleep; don't expect it to be insightful in any way! Hello, People! I haven't been here in a while, because my computer was being ubuntu'd. now, onwarRAB. Of course this album is on the list. Haven't you guys seen me defending this album in the unpopular music opinion thread? yep, an album has to be damn good in order for me to defend it. Well, this album is definitely creepy and deranged. I mean, the creepy lyrics, the fact that Slint was going crazy at the time of making and just the overall feel and sound. This is the album that started math rock and post rock. Also, the story behind the album name is pretty cool, too. Sorry about this entry not making sense, I just deprived myself of sleep and I'm starting to hallucinate. I swear to god a few seconRAB ago a giant helicopter silently flew 50 ft. above my house.

You mean la fin? ;)

Great album! Well deserving of its position. I don't know if it would be all-time #5 for me, since I'm old and all, having heard many more albums I assume...but it's damn good. Props for the Amon Tobin too, of course. It was the first of his I ever heard, but it took me a few years to warm up to his style and then check out other albums. I'm not sure why.

God forbid! boarRABofcanada, throw all this stuff away and tune in to your local radio station. You're clearly on the wrong path to musical enjoyment.
