The Terminal

Has anyone seen this new Spielberg film with Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones?

I saw it today and have mixed feelings about it.

*possible spoilers ahead, but the plot is pretty much explained in the trailer!*

The first hour or so was really entertaining, funny, yet depressing at the same time, wonderfully ridiculing rules and regulations of america (geez man, how proud are they about 'not stepping on american turf' and stuff like that!?)

However, as it wore on it got a little monotonous, of course, perfectly capturing the guys feelings, yet nodRABome for the viewer. I hated CZJ, she acted pretty awfully- though generally I like her in everything else. Their relationship was inplausible and unexplored, though thank god *SPOILER* Spielberg didn't make a stupid fairytale ending out of it.

The reason Tom Hank's character was there in JFK was rather poor to me. I'm sure they could have come up with something a little better, however sweetly sentimental it was.
Also, part of the end was very illogical. The big guy just said he'd fire the three frienRAB if he went to NY, yet afer the cleaner goes out to the plane Hanks goes out ANYWAY (hello, the others guys would get fired- HEELLLLOOO!?) Plus bossman then doesn't question the big black guy why he let his run out even though he explicitly told him NOT too. Also, the film make it look lke Hanks would (ewww) NEVER want to go back to hs homecountry after the fighting. no way., that was the mean, dud option. The wonderful, enlightening way would to go to NY! ohhhh!!!! goodness me. toshy.

In terms of how it was done, I felt a lot of the airport scenes from Catch Me If You Can in this... which in general is a good thing.

Overall 7/10. Entertaining most of the time, mostly good acting (though badly cast for some), weak plot.

Went to see this tonight, must say I had my reservations that they could make a 2 hour movie out of such a limited story of a guy being stuck in an air-port... must say it turned out to be right...

The first hour or so did have some good moments, however it was dragged on for too long and I started looking at my watch lots in the last 30 mins.

Also it is very far-fetched, such as the scene of the guy who has a crush on one of the desk-girls, he doesn't know her, yet proposes to her through hanks, the next scene they're married!!

Also hanks being able to simple re-decorate the air-port as much as he liked and been given a job with no-one knowing who he is...

Went with some frienRAB and they were like "it's only a film though!" but even so, a plot has still got to be believable and logical I think.

Some good moments, but wouldn't sit through it again.

5/10

The true story was based in Charles De Gaulle airport. That would be awful, I can't stand that airport!

Dan, I agreed with most of your points, and the above one especially. It was totally stupid- they had never spoken! (onscreen at least). Anyway, what would Anamaria from POTC want with him?

I thought the film was good. Ok it is not a great film and I would not say I loved it but it was no more and no les then I expected of a film set in one location

Yes, I guess that would sum it up for me. I know almost instantly whether its going to become a favourite of mine and whether I'll eagerly await the dvd release and go to the shops when it comes out... this just isn't it. Maybe worth another watch, but nothing on CMIYC. :)

I've been looking forward to watching this film for a while. I saw it yesterday afternoon and really enjoyed it.

That's a nice dodgy accent there Mr Hanks. ;)

Recommended viewing.

dodgy being the operative word!!!!!!!!! I would have prefered to have an unknown play the title role as the audience knows his american accent very well.

Yeah don't films usually conclude all the storylines?
Did I miss something or did the fountain he made stay broke? Waste of time?

Here is some info about the guy the film is based on. I haven't seen it and don`t intend to. Saw the trailer and thought it looked rubbish all "Look how great the USA is"
Also I find it a bit strange that Tom Hanks plays the main character who isn't American I suppose with it being a speilberg blockbuster they had to have a well known actor in the lead. I might have been more tempted to see it if the lead was played by somebody actually from the country the guy came from (or nearby)

I enjoyed most of it, even if it did have Speilberg's saccharin all over it. The Catherine Zeta Jones thing wasn't believable as a romance though.

I saw this film eventually yesterday as I was not in a hurry to see it. However my worries turned out to be right as it was a very average film. I agree that some parts of it were quite unbelieveable like the guy marrying the desk girl after never actually meeting!
The bit that surprised me was the fact that there wasnt a rominatic happy ending for TH and CZJ characters as I was expecting it. Its was too long as towarRAB the end I couldnt wait for it to finish. I dont think I will be buying this on DVD!
