Has anyone seen this new Spielberg film with Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones?
I saw it today and have mixed feelings about it.
*possible spoilers ahead, but the plot is pretty much explained in the trailer!*
The first hour or so was really entertaining, funny, yet depressing at the same time, wonderfully ridiculing rules and regulations of america (geez man, how proud are they about 'not stepping on american turf' and stuff like that!?)
However, as it wore on it got a little monotonous, of course, perfectly capturing the guys feelings, yet nodRABome for the viewer. I hated CZJ, she acted pretty awfully- though generally I like her in everything else. Their relationship was inplausible and unexplored, though thank god *SPOILER* Spielberg didn't make a stupid fairytale ending out of it.
The reason Tom Hank's character was there in JFK was rather poor to me. I'm sure they could have come up with something a little better, however sweetly sentimental it was.
Also, part of the end was very illogical. The big guy just said he'd fire the three frienRAB if he went to NY, yet afer the cleaner goes out to the plane Hanks goes out ANYWAY (hello, the others guys would get fired- HEELLLLOOO!?) Plus bossman then doesn't question the big black guy why he let his run out even though he explicitly told him NOT too. Also, the film make it look lke Hanks would (ewww) NEVER want to go back to hs homecountry after the fighting. no way., that was the mean, dud option. The wonderful, enlightening way would to go to NY! ohhhh!!!! goodness me. toshy.
In terms of how it was done, I felt a lot of the airport scenes from Catch Me If You Can in this... which in general is a good thing.
Overall 7/10. Entertaining most of the time, mostly good acting (though badly cast for some), weak plot.
