The Sunday Telegraph's Top 10 Animation Movies

Hmmm, a fairly broad list of entries that were indeed picked by someone with a knowledge of animation greater than the average punter in the streets. While there are some good entries, there are a few omissions; like The Lion King, or Princess Mononoke (which is right behind Spirited Away IMO)

And this being a British list, there is the ubiquitous British entry. The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb? Kinda flew under the radar for me. I can't even remember it being shown on TV. A far better choice would have been Animal Farm.

And just my opinion, but is Toy Story really the best PIXAR movie? Sure it's the first and was groundbreaking for the way it was made, but could the story be the best we've seen from this studio? I don't think so. I would rank Finding Nemo or The Incredibles higher in terms of quality.

Also, Dimensions of Dialogue? Well, let's just say there's no Wikipedia page for it.

I just watched Dimensions of Dialogue, and... wow. I don't know what it's doing on a movie list, being a short film (and if short films are included on this list, what's with the complete lack of Chuck Jones?), but that was really good. So simple, yet so complex. So surreal, yet so clear in meaning. That was one of the coolest animated shorts I've ever seen. What other good stuff has Svankmajer done?

I watched Spirited Away when it debuted in the States, not my cup of tea. The heroine was annoying. The film looked great but I didn't care for the characters or the story.

I've only heard of half the list, I'll have to see if I can find something on the others on y-tube.

By the by, a local theatre is screening this year's crop of Oscar-nominated animated short films, I'm going tomorrow. I love living in Seattle.:D

I dunno, I kind of liked how they restricted Disney, Ghibli and Pixar to two fims each. That way the list is nearly half big-name studios, half indies.

Hmm... Animal Farm was a bold effort and an interesting bit of animation history, but, IMO, a flawed film overall - the narration was excessive, and as for the imfamous ending...
If I were to replace Tom Thumb with a more mainstream British animation, I'd have picked something by Aardman (probably the most surprising absentee)

Well, someone's uploaded an image, if nothing else...

That wasn't quite what I meant, but I didin't make myself very clear the first time around. What I emant was that they could have picked different Disney movies instead of the ones they did.

Dull animation? The human characters may have been a bit generically-designed, but all the spirits and monsters and such were beautiful, as were the stunning backgrounds.
