The Strangers (Released 29/08/08 - UK)

Got to see a preview screening this weekend

Thought it looked good from the trailer, but glad I didn't pay to see it.

wont give anything away, but seen it all before and done much better :(

Havent yet seen it (going to this weekend hopefully), but I was just about to say about "Them". The trailer makes it look so similar. "Them" was a terrifying film, saw it in the cinema about 18 months ago and remember thinking what a shame it is that it wouldn't get the viewers something so well-made and frightening deserves - but then I suppose the same is true of a million foreign horror films that would never see the light of day in a british cinema.

"Strangers" looked okay to me, but I was already expecting it to be a shoddier version of "Them"...or even "Vacancy".

so did she live at the end? and how did they make the film when the intro said based on ture events and we still dont know what happned. The trailer with the sofa tied up scene runied it cos i was waiting for it to come the whole film:mad:

Drifter
I agree its a shame some excellent subtitled foreign films dont get shown ,
on a footnote I read that the young homeless boys who carried out the real life Them killings are now free .. how shocking is that !

Its the same old story with Hollywood, remake a really good foreign film and dumb it down for the americans.
Them is a very good film, really creepy.
Its being done for Rec too, it was showing at the cinema last year and its being remade already. Thats another really good, tense, european horror film.

sort of a spoiler not really sure:
It isnt based on true events as such they just added that in cause "the movie is inspired by an event from director Bryan Bertino's childhood: a stranger came to his home asking for a person and he would later find out that empty homes in the neighborhood had been burgled." So the film never actually happened. It was just a ploy by the filmmakers.
