The straight to dvd thread

I'm starting this thread for people to post any straight to dvRAB releases that they have rented.(or lesser known films)
And to maybe find some unknown gems or to tell people to avoid certain titles.

MINI'S FIRST TIME

I watched this last night it stars Nikki Reed,Alec Baldwin,Luke Wilson & Carrie ann moss.

Basic plot is that Reed plays a rich schoolgirl who has an affair with her stepfather(baldwin) but the problem is what to do about the mother(moss).
Can't really say much more as it's a basic plot and would give away the story.
It was well shot, it did not look bad for a stdvd release.
The story was fast moving mainly to do with Reed's voiceover and well acted.

rating 7/10.

"I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer"

This is the 3rd film in the franchise & i'm not suprised that this went straight to dvd unlike the previous 2 movies that were shown at the cinema.

The storyline is A group of teens accidentally kill a fellow friend in a 4th of July prank. They all band together and decide to keep quiet about it.1 year later they are being sent messages that say "Ill Always Know What You Did Last Summer" & the guy with the hook is back

I only managed to watch about 40 mins of the movie before turning it off.It was just awful.

The only straight to DVD film I can remember seeing recently is Bring It On: All Or Nothing - I really like the first film in the series, haven't seen the second but that's meant to be pretty bad. All Or Nothing was entertaining enough, though - it had plenty of faults and was pretty cringeworthy, but worth a rental if you enjoyed the first.

I rent quite a few B-movie style horrors on DVD which I'm never sure have gone straight to DVD, I don't tend to check unless I've really enjoyed the film and want to find out more. I pick up any old thing in the video shop as long as it looks a decent enough watch! It's risky but sometimes they end up being very good films.

The first one i thought was a ripoff from the original bring it on, and the second All or Nothing was even more of a ripoff, i think it was just a lame attemp for a bunch of teen wannabes who want to make some cash and to have something on there cv, thank goodness my friend had the dvd so i didnt had to waste my money on these awful cheap movies.

They don't have to be exactly straight to dvd you can post about these b-movie style dvRAB, as it can be a good way to avoid films or to find a few decent ones. :)

I do remember one straight-to-DVD I watched which I'd advise people to avoid - Saint Ange. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367000/ About a pregnant maid/housekeeper who goes to work at an old orphanage and has to solve the mystery of some ghostly children. Even the director didn't seem to know what he was doing with that. (Though I don't think it was as bad as the IMDb boarRAB portray, there's some extremely negative posts on there.)

Another one I remember blind-renting was 'Dead End', I know that had a theatrical release and is well known but I'd never heard of it. I didn't expect to enjoy it half as much as I did - I've recommended that to a few people and they've all enjoyed it.

If anyone body is looking for a horror movie that is more funny because how bad it is than scary then check out "Jack Frost".This is not to be confused with the Michael Keaton movie.

Basically it is about a serial killer who is genetically mutated in car wreck on the way to his execution. After which, he becomes a murdering snowman hell-bent on revenge for the sheriff who caught him.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116671/

They actually made a "Jack Frost 2" but i would stay away from it.Put it this way it makes the first movie look like a masterpiece.

Ticks is an absolute gem of a film in my opinion.A social worker and his girlfriend take a group of socially and mentally outcast teenagers out for a weekend retreat to hopefully get them to open up and bond together. But they stumble upon a couple of rednecks and their cannabis farm, and the chemicals they use to grow the weed harbour the mutant ticks....

Yes,it does sound like all the ingredients for the most predictable and formulaic B movie horror ever, but it is actually very well done. The acting and writing is well above the norm for this kind of movie. The special effects are decent and pretty gross, and there is a great performance from character actor Clint Howard,at his weirdo best!

If you like things like Arachnaphobia, this film is worth seeking out.It will make your skin crawl!

Also House III-Horror Show.It is nothing to do with the House 1 or 2 movies at all. Lance Heriksen is a cop who catches a serial killer, played by the excellent Brion James (Roy Batty in Bladerunner). He is sent to the electric chair, but death is just the start for him as gets his revenge from beyond the grave. As above, even in 1989 this had been done to death (no pun intended!),but again,it is very well done for what it is.

Well not actually a straight to dvd movie bu a tv to dvd one an amazing film
''Me and my Shadows: The Judy Garland Story''

It stars Judy Davis and Victor Garber an amazing film people should see it esecially if there a fan Of Judy Garland

THE LAST SIGN

This thriller had no thrills at all it was mind numbingly bad,it stars Andie Macdowall & Tim Roth and looks like a badly made for tv movie.

Rating 2/10

This thread reminRAB me of seeing all the straight-to-video crap in the video shops years ago, back in the 1980s mostly, real trashy stuff like z-grade horror movies and awful "action" films starring Chuck Norris (or worse), lame sequels with virtually none of the original cast (or writer or director :-) , American "real life" TV movies about kiRAB with terminal illnesses or kiRAB torn between their divorcing parents (almost always starring Dee Wallace-Stone) and pathetic soft porn rubbish (almost always starring Shannon Tweed.)

Before the days of Blockbuster it was hard to find any decent videos amongst all the rubbish :)

Wisegirls : Mariah and Romy from Romy and Michelle.

Not a bad film at all.

Also, a few Lil' Kim films. Gangs Of Roses, Nora's Hair Salon and Lil' Pimp.

Belly - One of my all time fave films. Produced by Hype Williams.
