THE STIG for Channel Five Fifth Gear!!!!!

Id like too see a program which is the middle between top gear and fifth gear also, Ive been watching some fifth gears recentlly and have decided its better than the current seasons of top gear. And i have been a long fan of top gear it breaks by heart too say it :( But sometimes just sometimes i watch a motoring program too see some cars you know... Ones that one day i might be able too buy :)

.....Except Fifth Gear have signed Ben Collins, not The Stig.

The Stig is a trademarked character belonging to Top Gear.

Ben Collins was essentially an actor playing a role. He can be replaced.

I expect TG will carry out some kind of stunt to mark the demise of White Stig though.

I'm sure Jeremy 'Brown Choppers' Clarkson and 'the boys' will come up with a side-splitting comedic and totally original send off complete with a caravan driven by Johnny Foreigner.

I doubt it. They have already admitted they struggle to come up with ideas now and dumping the Power Laps and the SIARPC segments would leave some time to fill.

The Stig is also a cult figure with a large fanbase and it sells tickets.

I doubt it. A lot of people seem obsessed with killing stig and bringing in a different colour - as if that is "what Top Gear does".

Well, they did it once, 8 years ago. And the black Stig was just a test driver, not a global brand icon and marketing image worth millions.

Only yesterday, a new Stig book was on the shelves with White Stig on the cover. Would that sell if there was no white stig?

All TG needs to do is hire another driver, the character lives on and the mystery starts all over again. Its not as if it was a shock that the stig was a racing driver, and most people knew which driver too. The Powerlaps can restart. The board was full anyway.

TG would not even have to mention it. White Stig, business as usual. All changing the colour would achieve is hit their merchanise sales and allow BC to wear the white suit again on a rival programme as it would not be a TG trademark.

Well said. Top Gear should have been either cancelled or revamped years ago before it became an ego-trip vehicle for the presenters. Fifth Gear moved in the same direction to become an hour-long, bloated shadow of its former self. However, after 9 series in the wilderness, it returned to being a proper motoring show earlier this year in the old 1/2-hour format, and very good it was too.

I wonder if the addition of The Stig to the show will be a case of too many cooks? They already have Tiff & Jason.

I also must add that William Woollard is a legend in broadcasting.

:( I miss Lord Of Darkness Quentin Willson. His knowledge of second hand motors was awesome. He was pretty cool too with his leather jackets and 'something of the night' persona.
They should bring him, Mike Brewer and big Ed China together for a show on primetime telly.
I always remember Q doing 'The Cars The Star'.Especially the Mk1 Golf GTI.
