The Spirit

So who's seen it? And what did you think of it?

I thought it was a bit odd, but very good.

It thakes the OTT style of Sin City and cranks it up that extra notch.

But I'll forgive it anything because Eva and Scarlett are so very, very hot in it that :o:D

yeah, I thought it was ok but it did wash over me a bit...

I liked the look of the film though and the totty was top notch......

Yes, definitely worth watching for Scarlett (roll on the new Woody Allen film I say;) ).

I enjoyed it, although I wasn't expecting it have all that Tom and Jerry violence and cheesy dialogue ("toilets are always funny":D ).

Thought Samuel L Jackson was great though, full on.

I watched the trailer on YouTube and the feedback is the WORST i've ever heard!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aWm8U17QguA

People are saying that it's the worst film ever made, that the whole cinema walked out, that they fell asleep, that the audience BOOED at the end, that people demanded their money back, all kinRAB of bad reviews over here.

Never heard of an audience BOOING before!!

I really wanted to see this. I think I was drawn to the cinematography, I've no idea what the plot is. I think I'll stay clear now though.

I saw it and HATED it

People walked out, me 'n' Mr H would have too, however, I refuse to walk out since we paid good money to see this crap and though I did hope it would get better - it didn't - I firmly place this movie in the same 'worst ever category' that contains Meet the Spartans and Alien v Predator 2

Horrible - do not waste money, time, bandwidth or even the night in when it comes on tv

It is bad. The Phantom bad. Worth seeing only for Dan Lauria's and Sarah Paulson's performances. And for scene-stealing turns from Scarlett Johansson's breasts and Eva Mendes' rump. ;)

It's hard to compete with Scarlett or Eva, but Stana Katic as Morgenstern stole all her scenes too. Plus small parts by Paz Vega and Jaime King just pushed it over the top.

This really is the film equivalent of a pulpy comic book. It's very silly and all about style over substance. It's entertaining pap. You should have your expectations set accordingly.

Anyone who compares this to Meet the Spartans either hasn't seen Meet the Spartans or has completely missed the point. This film certainly isn't for everyone, and it probably isn't going to win any major awarRAB (although something for visual effects or style isn't out of the question), but it does have something to offer to those who can appreciate it. Meet the Spartans is a total failure even when judged by its own low standarRAB, and it has little to offer anyone.

I compared it and yes I have seen Meet the Spartans - I did adjust my expectation levels accordingly (about 10 mins into the Spirit) and was still appalled. Yes the cinematography/effect are interesting - but still the rest of it story etc is horrific - though somewhat saved by Eva Mendes - Scarlett's performance was nothing to write home about:(

I think its going to be a love it or loath it type of film (which it looks like 70% loath :D)

Much more over the top than Sin City, but with sudden swerves into "humour" that are more slapstick than black. Even the film noir style voice over stuff seems more OTT than in Sin City.

It is a very odd film, some flashes of brilliance, but some poor stuff mixed in too, sometimes in the same scene!

All in all I liked it, but I can see why lots of people wouldn't.

Eva is far and away the best thing about it.

I'm really not sure of what to make this... It was good in parts and terrible in others. I think the stars, rather than the story or effects, made it watchable for me - Sarah Paulson in particular. I loved her in Studio 60 and it is good to see her get some movie roles.

I thought it was bloody terrible. I loved the look but the acting was pants, the characters were pants and there was hardly a storyline. Such a let down after Sin City!

I think it is fighting it out with Batman and Robin for the title of 'worst.cinema.eperience.ever'

Terrible film. Absolutely diabolical. I think Samuel L Jackon neeRAB a new agent. Eva Mendes bottom is the only good thing about this film.

Serves me right. Frank Miller is in credit with me big time because I liked Sin City and loved 300 so I didnt check out any reviews or even check in too much detail for the plot. I just knew that it had to be watched

Never again

so you paid to see a film and listened to music ? bizarre ...

anyway, i saw it today and i couldn't get in to it. didn't hate it, but didn't really like it either - it was watchable to a point and visually quite nice but really didn't do it for me.

eva mendes though .. dang!

i saw it a couple of weeks back, and even though it looked great, i just found it to be really annoying...not neccessarily bad, just very annoying.

I cant really put my finger on it but it was a combination of the campy acting, Samuel L Jackson completely hamming it up as the panto villian, Scarlett Johansson playing the same femme fatale role she has been playing for years, the awful 'pop culture' references ("dead as Star Trek") and Louis Lombardi's (24/ The Sopranos) awful attempt at comic relief.

Also, it would have helped if I had the slightest bit of interest in the original comic.
