The Sound Of Music

I loooooove the Sound of Music! I love the romance and the songs and everything.

Actually went to a Sing-a-long dressed as a nun. Now *that's* sadder than just knowing lyrics :D

sow....a needle pulling thread... :p

damn brilliant film/musical. the bit when the eldest girl falls in love with the german soldier makes me cry as it always brings a tear to my nans eye. think it reminRAB her of when she met my grandad.

I used to watch it every other weekend when I was a kid (about 7-11) sleeping over at my best friend's house. The thing is she always stopped the video at the marriage and for years I thought that was where it actually ended. I was always baffled later on when people talking about it mentioned the war!

"The war? What war? There was a war on?" :D

And if you think about it apart from Rolf there's little to give it away. Or maybe I was just a dozy kid.

I still haven't seen it to the end!

Don't know whether it's been mentioned before, but I've just seen from my copy of the Radio Times that The Sound of Music is on BBC1 this afternoon at 3.20pm.

I watched it many many times as a child, and listened to the record non-stop. Then I got to about 13 or 14 and decided it wasn't cool so stopped watching/listening to it.

Went back to it again at 17 or 18 and was amazed. It was no longer a film about kiRAB singing as they ran across mountains and wanting their governess to be there instead of the nasty Baroneess. And more importantly, Edelweiss was no longer a song about a flower. It was a song about the Austria that many knew and loved, disappearing and being swallowed up by the surge of the nazi party, and about the loss of their homeland and freedom.

I'm not ashamed to say that I cried when I heard that song and finally realised what it was about (and have tears in my eyes now, just thinking about it).

Great movie
Some years ago I read a newspaper article about how the film was cut in various parts of the world.

I remember it said that in Germany the few scenes showing Nazi uniforms were cut.

Most amazing was the Chinese version which allegedly cut all the songs.
Apparently at the time the only western music allowed in China was classical.

Would love to have confirmation that this story was true, it would probably make this a pretty short movie.

Awwww the concert. I love this part...
All together now.. Eidelweiss...
... you look happy to me, to me...

"Quick leg it"
 "they've gone, they've gone"
loud police whistles

She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee
Her dress has got a tear......

Next line someone??? ;)

Edit: think I got the lyrics wrong!

"A drink with jam and bread
jam and bread
with jam and bread
tea with jam and bread
tea with jam and bread, jam and bread
jam and bread, tea with jam, jam and bread
jam and bread, tea with jam, jam and bread
with ABC (with ABC)
with jam and bread (with jam and bread)
tea with jam and bread
with jam and bread, with jam, with jam and bread"

Okay, so I am really sad because I knew all that without looking it up! It's the ending of the version they sing at the festival.
