I cant beleive that we are FINALLY getting this movie over here now!!!! It was first released in the USA moreorless a YEAR AGO and we are finally getting it now?????:eek::eek::eek::eek:

And yet, how come with most other new releases they come out here virtually same week as the release date in the USA????

Its the same with that other Jamie Foxx film, Ray(a biopic of the soul and R&B legend, Ray Charles), we had to virtually wait a WHOLE year for it after the release date in the USA!! In fact, I think it came out on DVD first!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

What gives?????
 
It all to do with the film not being what was expected. The studio thought it would be Osacr material, so they released it in the appropriate time slot (film for the 2009 Oscars must have been released in the US by December 2008).

Since it wasn't a success in the States, the distributors in the UK used their marketing budgets on other films and this one was pushed back until now.

It's all very difficult to understand, but basically its to do with their marketing budgets. The same reason was given fo Up being release in the US in the summer and not until October over here.
 
I saw a trailer for it in the cinema when 'Man On Wire' was showing then it was never released, until now.
It doesn't look great IMO.
I think it possibly tried to be something it's not, I think I'll wait for DVD personally.
 
I saw it this week. Didn't expect to enjoy it, but loved it. Fantastic performances and lots of lovely Beethoven/Bach music. The cinematography is great, too. My only critcisms are it was a tiny bit too long (but not much) and there was one slightly dodgy moment involving a pigeon. :p The UK aRAB for it do not do it justice and the annoying song on the trailers isn't in the film, thankfully :D
 
Just got back from seeing this as really enjoyed it.

This type of film isn't usually my cup of tea. But excellent performances from Fox and Downey-Junior, and a very good storyline.

I saw this movie ages ago (it's been out on DVD internationally) and despite being a fan of Wright's work this one left me cold.

Foxx's portrayal means that he mumbles alot, Downey Jnr mumbles alot (which is what he normally does) which makes it an irritating watch - and the storytelling is a bit haphazard, so what should have beeen a heartwarming story is just boring and cold. :yawn:
 
saw it this week, and thought it was just OK.

whilst Nathaniel is clearly an interesting character, ultimately the story wasn't that strong. as some reviews have said, fair play to the film for not preaching or offering any answers - because there aren't any.

so the story plays out without any real narrative drive, without any real emotional highs or lows, and just feels like a series of the journalist's columns, which i suspect is what his book was?
