The Slash Thread

No offense to you slash fans, I know hes great and all, but I think he may be a tiny bit overrated .................. maybe ALOT!!!!!! IMO that is, of course. I know there are SO many more great guitarists out there than slash. He was just in the right place at the right time.

His solos can get really repetitive and boring.

Anyway, state your opinions about Slash here.

I love Slash, he's my favorite guitarist, although his GnR work is way better than his work in VR. People think he is overated for two reasons:

1. Overexposure. He's written a book, starred in GH3 and it seems like he's everywhere in the media. I'm sure people get tired of that.
2. He is a great guitarist but his work is more based on feeling rather than speed or technique (tho his technique is very good). Nowadays people value shredders over blues-based guitarists.

No way are his solos boring. Dig a little deeper into GnR's catelogue (which is more than Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child) and you'll see his ability.

I think slash is pretty good, but yes there are alot of better guitarists out there, like david gilmour, eric clapton, steve vai and so on. It's just the type of music and your opinion that really counts. But yes, he is over rated.

:rofl:That can be applied to so many artists today.
"Same style" complaints. That's usually a good thing, in most cases.

I think a better way to put it would be, not "changing", but not progressing.
Slash is a great player, he just neeRAB to mix things up a bit.

And recently, I think he's an idiot for saying a kid should rot in prison over leaked music that Slash didn't even have a part in making.

His style worked well with Guns n' Roses, but otherwise he's kind of boring. I had the misfortune of seeing Slash's Snake Pit live in 2001 and I remeraber being struck how boring Slash's playing was and by the fact that he hadn't evolved musically in a decade.

Yes, but popularity means nothing if we're actually talking about who's better.

Oh and sorry, not to sound like I'm jumping on you. That wasn't really directed just at you, I've just heard a lot of people whine that GNR doesn't have Slash anymore and the like.

By the way, you have heard some of Buckethead's work outside of GNR, right? He only had writing credits on maybe 2 or 3 songs on the album.

For a decent taste of his solo stuff.

What sort of reply is that :bringit:. Anyhoo I have never rated Slash. Buns N Toasties bore me rigid and apart from 'Slither', Velvet Revolver are generic crap..and yes I did listen to the album before I formed an opinion.

Excuse me but it's near to childish to say "How anyone could think Slash is better than Buckethead blows my mind".

What makes one guitarist ?
If we are talking about technique, one can say buckethead is better ...

Rock Guitarist for me is guitar player, composer, improviser, stage performer, human being - personality...
Summing it up, Slash, for me, is much more ahead of buckethead. But I acknowledge that my option is highly subjective, as anyone else's.

Yeah i think although slash is a good guitarist, he seems to have not changed, unlike say other banRAB like slipknot they have changed over the years (llok at the new album) but slash's playing style and music has not changed, although you cant really argue that he is not talented at all.
