The Simpsons - "Treehouse of Horror XXI" - Talkback [11/7]

I actually enjoyed this THOH episode. Even though most of the recent episodes are so-so, I enjoy the Halloween specials. Skit one and three were the most enjoyable, with three inching up as the best of XXI. Skit two was nice, I did love how it became a twist fest near the end, so many what ifs. As for Skit one, I'm quite surprised it took this long for a Jumanji/Zathura twist. I think that the Twilight one might make my list of favorite Halloween segments, I thought it had a nice blend of humor, along with an understanding of the source material.

Treehouse of Horrors are the last bastion of good Simpsons jokes. Unfortunately, recent years have proven this wrong and this year was quite dull as well.

I can think of a total of 4 jokes I laughed it.

- The Office opening parody
- Milhouse transforming into a poodle
- Homer walking on the deck
- Flanders served at dinner

Other than that, these were some uninspired shorts. Especially the first one which felt like they were just stuffing a bunch of Parker Bros game references.

I'd like to see THOH adaptions of the comic books from Bongo, like Paul Dini's "Sideshow Blob." Here's an idea Simpson Writers, do a Saw spoof with Scooby-Doo and Mystery Inc, with the Simpsons as guest stars.

"A Clockwork Orange".

Not really an APT reference...

Honestly, this whole thing felt dull. I smiled a little at Milhouse being a werepoodle and the vampire cameos (no Angel or Spike, though? Booo.).

You're not the only one. I didn't get it either.

The only thing that really made me laugh was Homer saying that asking a vampire if they know Frankenstein is apparently racist somehow.

What?! Where?

Guys, the Clockwork Orange reference is Maggie dressing up like the main character Alex, as if she secretly is demented and twisted like him.

They say one of the most popular lines from the movie in the same exact way that Tommy Wiseau said it, how could it not be a reference?

I can't believe The Simpsons didn't do a Jumanji spoof years ago since the movie came out in 1995. I guess better late than never. Anyways 1 and 3 were the best and 2 I didn't get what it was a parody of. Treehouse of Horror always seems to be written well every year.

I liked the references to many board games but as spoofed names, and the end of "War and Pieces" had Bart and Milhouse in the hangman game failing to solve the "Wheel of Fortune" puzzle, who knew Wheel of Fortune was inspired by hangman?

Funny to see Milhouse turned in a poodle in "Tweenlight".

I really liked this episode, there was a great balance, I thought. The first one had lots of classic board game references that I think worked just as well as the advertising mascots coming to life back in the day (I particularly liked Battleship and Milhouse's Scrabble death with "RIP"). The second one was a lot creepier with the growing paranoia and murders. And the final one took a good dig at the contemporary "young vampires are hot" think and used Daniel Ratfink.

Speaking of spooky nicknames, I loved that guy who died in 185 seconds.

I liked all the twists and turns it took, even it being all something Maggie imagined, but they should've ended it there without the Clockwork Orange thing.

So the "You're tearing me apart" thing was The Room then? It's weird Edmund would say that to his father. If they were going to go for the full reference, shouldn't he be saying it to Lisa?

I loved the vampire sight gag, but I was upset there was no Whedon vampires or Blacula.

Meh, not one of the best, but ut was still enjoyable. I liked the office parody, but War & Pieces seemd to take too much time showing the citizens in the chaos and Bart's plot felt kida short, but the ending was great. Master & Cadaver was good, and Marge looked very hot in her bikini! then Tweenlight was fairly decent, and closed it nicely. Not one of the best, but not the worst.

Yeah, I don't get the reactions -- this one was a snore. My only laugh was at The Office title redone with monsters. The Twilight spoof could have been so much better. Come on, it's Twilight, you can make jokes about Dracula some other time -- it's Edward that needs the riffing.

I'm not entirely convinced "You're tearing me apaaart" was a Wiseau impression, given that (1) there's absolutely no satirical reason to parody The Room in the middle of a Twilight parody and (2) Lisa was STANDING RIGHT THERE and he DIDN'T SAY HER NAME.

I thought it was alright.....not that much laugh-out-loud humor, but not terrible either...

The first segment with Bart and Milhouse was amusing...I loved the line "Hey,if Satan put his name on the game,it must be good!"...as well as the Scrabble "R.I.P." when Milhouse decided to drown himself...

The second had a couple good twists (and I loved that the whole story ended up being in Maggie's imagination)...I also loved Homer killing the chef because "If we don't kill him,he'll tell everyone we TRIED to kill him!!!"...

The Twilight parody had some funny scenes....Edmund saving Lisa from every vehicle that came near her,and both Lisa and Edmund's embarrasment over their respective dad's behavior...Also loved Milhouse's transformation into a poodle...I kinda wish I hadn't seen the preview for this episode, though, since it gave away the ending...
