The Simpsons - "The Fool Monty" - Talkback [11/21]

I liked the Avatar parody opening,as well as Burns trying to put the town under a dome like in the the Stephen King book "Under the Dome" before the townspeople pointed out it had already been done (in the movie,as well as one solution to that problem that noone ever thought of)...funny episode,if not quite as good as last week's...

Quite a few good gags in the beginning and then with the Oatmeal version of Mr. Burns. He seemed to snap back too quickly, though. Heck, they seemed to forget about the Burns dying bit too...I was expecting some kind of last minute misdiagnose thing.

Pretty good episode. Burns stealing all the vaccines was funny. I can't believe Mr. Burns tried to kill himself. I can't believe how quick Bart's plot of hiding Mr. Burns was. Allowing the whole town to have revenge on Mr. Burns was kind of funny. But I can't believe Lisa bringing him to his house made him normal again. The movie reference was great to see.

Another good episode. I think I'm going to like this season.

Plenty of good sight gags, the movie reference had me laughing out loud, and Cheney erasing Smithers' memory a la Men in Black was awesome, too. And I loved the cat flu plot too, the Avatar couch gag, Burns bouncing around the forest, him following the carrot through the construction site (and I loved the tune for the scene). 9/10

The Mayor saying to Lisa, "You're only 8 years old? I thought you were a midget!" made me laugh. :D

I always wondering why none of the other characters questioned how intelligent Lisa was for an 8 year old.

Just premiered here in the UK. It wasn't classic but I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. It reminded me of something from the Scully era (when I basically gave up on the show) but with more heart and with the jokes having more thought. That's always been my biggest complaint with those episodes, but Bart took Burns in initially out of genuine concern and things like Apu following up on Snake's ice skating comment made it work better than the general 'insert pointless quick gag here' we've been seeing for the last decade plus. Speaking of, loved Burns skull recliner :D

In terms of negatives, I have to say I wish they'd do away with the Burns gore. The show really needs to stop thinking that gross out humour is funny (the episode with Homer and the penny in his hand...ugh. Plus referencing the movie was pretty uninspired, even if it did reference a plot hole. Likewise Maggie with the shotgun...that was just mean. The swine flu framing device was also pretty outdated, but that sadly seems to be a consistent factor of the show's 'topical' humour now.
