The Simpsons - "The Fight Before Christmas" - Talkback [12/5]

I actually thought it was pretty good, certainly better than most episodes we've seen recently. The first story with Bart was really good, the middle of the episode was alright, and the puppet thing at the end was about as cheesy and bad as I expected it to be, although it did manage to get a few laughs out of me. I got the feeling it wasn't really supposed to be good though, almost like they were making fun of people's complaints that the show is becoming more gimmicky than before.
 
Okay. I've never been that into the Simpsons, but I do see a bit of it while I'm waiting for "The Cleveland Show." If I had known the whole show was supposed to be a Muppet parody, I might have watched from the beginning. I did catch Moe's imitation of Cookie Monster and Grampa Simpson and the other guy playing Waldorf and Statler. I might want to check out that ep again whenever it re-airs.
 
Compared to the previous episodes of this season which were very dull, this is actually not bad.
I thought that the 1st segment was the worst, they could have made it way better. I felt like there weren't enough details. The only part that was mildly interesting was the Polar express parody. They should've based the segment on that instead.
The WWII segment was okay, the scene at the movie theater somewhat reminded me of Inglourious Basterds.
I didn't like the 3rd segment, but only because I never cared much for Martha Stewart.
Overall, the muppet segment was by far the best. For the first time this season I literally laughed out loud.
I highly doubt that there will be an improvement in future episodes, but this one was enjoyable. :)
 
That really clouded my judgment for half this episode. I didn't want to see MORE dark Christmas themes, so firing elves and Hitler wasn't helping anything.

Might be better on rewatch, and I did like all the Martha Stewart stuff, some great visuals there.

I liked seeing the Simpsons as puppets, particularly Moe's ugly brow ridge and Burns' vulture-like features. Weird seeing Katy Perry tower over all of them like that, though.
 
Eh. For me it was a mediocre episode. I was bored through the whole episode except for the Martha Stewart and Katy Perry segments which weren't as bad as the other two.
 
I actually enjoyed the puppet segment with Katy Perry in it, and only remember the plot of Bart's being about him wanting revenge on Santa, which I thought was OK, and the GB reference in Lisa's Dream.
 
I thought it was decent,not really laugh out loud funny,but it had its moments...I liked the puppet segment the best,probably because I'm a huge fan of the Muppets,and it was amusing to see Grampa and Jasper in the Statler and Waldorf roles...
Bart's story was alright(I've actually never seen the Polar Express,but I know this was partly a parody of it)...I liked seeing the various character/object cameos from other holiday specials (Shroeder from Charlie Brown,Bumble from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,and the leg lamp from A Christmas Story...there's probably more that I missed) ...
Lisa's was OK...I liked Marge killing Hitler in the end...
The Martha Stuart one was strange,but I liked that she provided her own voice for the segment...
 
My comments, by segment:

Bart's: Very funny, the best of the bunch. Loved the train working with pot, the pirate bears, and the ending line, by Otto: "Did you ever want a train for xmas? You have one now!" and jumps off.

Lisa's: Funny, my second favourite. Loved the idea of Marge going to war and Homer staying, the MIA joke and Marge killing Hitler (and Hilter taking his moustache off and putting it on a random guy and saying HE'S Hitler LOL).

Marge's: The weakest of the special, but had some good jokes, like the mail van crashing and the breakfast in bed....for you to make!

Maggie's: My third favourite, liked the 4th wall breakings (Moe: "Get that thing off me!!!" - real hand takes phone), the budget being blown on Katy Perry and the innuendo on the credits.

Overall: Good episode. I liked how each dream dealt with a problem each character had after sleeping (Marge - house decorations, Lisa - the tree, Bart - killing Santa, and Maggie - the Flupets DVD [I HATE BAD PUNS!! Can't they say muppet?]). 7.9/10
 
Episode was OK, right before that Puppet segment my Fox Affiliate messed up the signal and the HD Feed became a Standard-Def Feed (In Full Screen with Widescreen Bars, making it a tiny letterbox.)

Surprisingly, the quality of the puppet segment held up though. It was pretty good except for the fact that its a 3-parter (I prefer Episode-long Stories.)
 
Simpspin, I have to pause and ask you: if you hate The Simpsons so much... why are you still watching? I stopped finding it funny after "Kill the Alligator and Run," stopped watching, and haven't looked back save the movie (which I enjoyed). No one's forcing you... why still watch? Your reviews are consistantly "I hate this, I hate this, I hate this..." every week... why not just leave the show and move on?
 
As the guy above me said, I want to say I've seen the episodes in order from the Ullman show to whenever it ends, and, two, I want to see how much of a train wreck the show becomes. And since the Simpsons's primary revenue stream is selling its junky merchandise around the world--none of which I'd ever buy--watching the show, or otherwise, has me contributing nothing to the show's bottom line.
 
Well, my next question would be... why? What are you getting out of it? There's no prize at the end of the rainbow, no one to congrat you. It seems like you're akin to someone who hates screamers clicking on every screamer he can, knowing full well what'll happen. You KNOW it's going to be like getting kicked in the groin every time, why waste your time? I hate FG, but I don't make a point to watch it every night because of my hatred because such behavior screams insanity to me.

The list of shows I dropped because it got bad is long; and part of the reason I dropped them was because I would prefer to remember it as it was than what happened to it as time went on. It was out of respect for the laughs and tears it had given me in the past. That and I saw no need to torture myself if the writing sucked.

Surely your hatred of The Simpsons isn't more powerful than what brought you to the Ullman shorts? Is being able to say "I hate this" every Sunday for the next, what, two years really worth overlooking the fact that once good laughs were to be had?
 
I don't hate the Simpsons (Seasons 1-9), I hate the Zombie Simpsons (S10-Present). And you must have me confused with someone else--I don't hate EVERY new epsiode, but I do think there are around 5 episodes a season that are worth sitting through the other crap for. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings with my reviews.

And if you don't watch the show anymore, then why are you on a Simpsons topic?

Very cool episode. Who would've thought that even Krusty can be Santa Claus?


Also, nice satire on the subconcuious in Lisa's WWII-themed dream.


I wish they wouldn't spoil the Katy Perry scene until it airs, but it was enjoyable.
