Well, here it is everybody. The 20th season of the Simpsons has finally arrived on DVD & Blu-Ray. Who would ever think it would last this long?! This will be the place to discuss the box set and everything tht comes with it.

Comments?

As for me, most likely I'll be the only one not buying it. I stopped watching the series after the end of season 15. I have my reasons, but I'm too afraid to say them.:crying::crying::crying:

I'm hoping it gets a re-release with commentaries somewhere down the line. But for the time being, I'm just going to pass. Really like the packaging look, though.

No sale for me.

Season 20 wasn't the greatest, but had this been the usual set with commentaires and the 'extended cut' of the 20th Anniversery Special, I would've picked this up.

This is a true DVD/Blu Ray FAIL!

i bought it @ 12:29pm est and returned it @ 6:27pm est same day

no commentary , no poster , no sale

i'll likely pick it up when it is deep deep discounted

quick buck, bare bones release
meh. they didn't even include the 20th anniv. special?
and i missed it too! hopefully it'll be on hulu or fox's site

Technically, this isn't a Simpsons DVD. It's just a 441-minute commercial for the FOX network. If it were a "real" Simpsons DVD, like the forthcoming Season 13 set, it'd have commentaries and deleted scenes and animation featurettes and all the other stuff that fans buy the DVDs for.

I picked up the Blu-Ray on Day 1, as I do with every Simpsons release. It is nice to finally see the episodes that were done in HD actually in HD, let alone in widescreen. I just do not understand why Fox does not know how to properly air these episodes in the correct aspect ratio. This is easily the best season since Season 6, especially with episodes like How the Test was Won and Eeny Teeny Maya Moe.

It sucks that there are no commentaries though, but then, I have yet to listen to a single episode, so it is no big deal for me. However, the biggest thing that irks me is the booklet. Instead of having this kick ass booklet that lists every air date, synopsis, guest stars, etc, it is just a two page booklet that lists what episode is on the disc and that is it. That is just pure laziness. Nevertheless, I am glad to have it and even the non-HD episodes look fantastic. I just hope we get Season 13-19 out asap.

Yeah they did. It is on the second disc.

Where I'm at, FOX airs the show in its proper aspect ratio - but I have a standard-definition 4:3 TV, so I'm only watching the middle part of a 16:9 image. My DVD player has the option to show a letterboxed 16:9 image, though, so these episodes would appear right if I bought this set...but I don't want it that bad.

Not mine. Hell, my Fox does not even air in HD. The closest I have gotten to seeing the new episodes in WS is the episode a few weeks ago. It started in 4x3, then switched to 16x9 for about 4 seconds, then back to 4x3, and then went back to 16x9 for another few seconds before staying in 4x3.

My bad, it is just a commercial. -_-

I think maybe you might have this confused.

Just to clarify, the 20th Anniv special is NOT included on the Season 20 release. There is only a 3.5-minute "sneak peak" of the anniv special included on this set:

My money's on FOX releasing an extended, director's cut of the anniv. special as a separate title between now and December of 2010.

While I like the commemorative packaging, this collection is not a good value at retail price because it lacks the bonus content and other quality fans have come to expect from the box set releases. I don't think it's even a good value pre-owned at a significant discount.

Wal-Mart, btw, has an exclusive gift set that includes a Simpsons desk calandar. That's at least more than FOX offered, but it's still a pass nevertheless.

I feel FOX rushed to get this set out to coincide with the 20th anniv and the TV documentary, and they really dropped the balls on this one. It's full of fail on several levels.
