The Simpsons - "The Color Yellow" - Talkback [2/21]

It was funny that they named her ancestor Eliza. Remember in "The Day the Violence Died", when Itchy & Scratchy was cancelled, Bart and Lisa worked feverishly to find a way to get them back on the air, only to be upstaged by two ripoff version of kids named Lester and ELIZA. That was still one of the funniest endings of the series.

And whatever happened to the actual successful members of the family, particularly the women who briefly appeared in "Lisa the Simpson". They seemed to forget about them in this episode. Well c'est la vie!

Also, I remember an episode (can't remember the title, but it was the one where Apu was trying to be a citizen) that explained that the Simpsons' ancestry traced back to immigrants who came to America from the early 1900s. Of course, Grandpa told that story, so there's probably little truth to it.

Well, I liked the attic scene due to all the easter eggs hidden in the background, as well as the opening gag with Bart and Willie.

Can't say the same for the rest of the episode though.

I just want to know how they got that Olmec head into the attic.

Other than that it was a pretty meh episode. The ending is what threw me off too, it could have had so much potential but it was poorly constructed. I did like the idea of them showing the family tree though, since they've never really done that before even though Family Guy also tried it.

Maybe they don't want to get their ass kicked by the Olympics again? I'm actually surprised they're airing any new episodes against the Olympics.

Didn't we have an episode last season where Lisa had to do a project about her family tree? And didn't she discover it was boring so she made up a story about her being descended from Native Americans?

Estimated year that The Simpsons will finally end: 2012. Most very likely.

I had to balance out the bad episode by watching "Lemon of Troy".

That's both of them parodying the same thing - Family Guy probably parodied lots of things the Simpsons had already parodied. Does that count as a ripoff?

So there was a lot of Eliza Simpson history thanks to the old diary Lisa found with the last couple of pages missing, a cookbook by Eliza's mother, Milhouse's ancestor's diary, and a library film vault film.

It wasn't last season, but yeah, it was recently. It's actually the first episode that came to mind when I heard about the plot for this episode.

"Now?" It's been doing that since circa season 11.

That said, I frankly expected the episode to be lame - and it wasn't that great. Probably the only redeeming graces were (1) that they fled north to Canada (always nice to see Canada get a funny portrayal), and (2) the bunch of easter eggs in the attic.

I watched this episode while half-asleep, so I re-watched it this afternoon.

It was better the second time through, but overall it was kind of meh. Had a few good jokes, though.

I liked this a bit more than I thought I would. Favorite moments:

  • "No one's allowed to be better than me, and I'm pretty bad."
  • Wendell's Obama -- "Let me be clear."
  • "Colonel Burns? Why, I haven't heard my father's name in years."
  • "Hey, hey -- Honest Abe!"

They missed out on a PERFECTLY good opportunity for an OJ Simpson joke, though!
