"The Simpsons" renewed for 23rd season

My reaction to this news isn't very bright at all, as I was a very big Simpsons fan but has since been degraded into a guy who doesn't care if he misses a few episodes.

It'd be BS to say that this show didn't go down in terms of writing and humor like other long running (not as the former) series, like SpongeBob, Fairly Oddparents and etc. Hell, almost every Simpsons episode has flat out sucked since Season 19.

Although the writing will pretty much stay the same from here on in, I'll say that if the next season is anything like the previous two, I will ultimately dust my hands off the show, for good this time. Unlike all the other cartoons I walked away from, this will be the hardest for me, escpecially for a formerly big Simpsons fan.

The Simpsons has been going downhill for a while now and It would be smart to end it soon (Next 2-3 seasons) while its moderately good. Also instead of having a second Simpsons movie as the finale they should just put their money into making a good last season with Matt Groening and the original writers.

I think it will still be around. Think Flinstones- there was still merch, movies, spin offs, etc after the original show ended (not that all of them were good, but they existed).

Yep, as late as the 1990's, there was still TONS of merchandise around, a good 30 years after the show ended. I'm sure it will be the same with The Simpsons (especially since, at this point, the Simpsons is arguably an even more important part of pop culture than The Flintstones ever was).

Which goes to show you, the Simpsons series can get canceled someday. Doesn't mean they'll stop the merchandize, but the actual series can indeed end at some point.

I also think they're going to stop at 25 seasons, I really do not think Simpsons will be on for 30 years. After the 25th season though, I do expect one more movie.
