The Simpsons - "O Brother, Where Bart Thou?" - Talkback [12/13]

The Years on The Simpsons can be a little confusing, like Pokemon. If the characters don't age you won't know what year there in.

Yeah but it seemed like it was nudging towards it when Milhouse told Bart that the Karma Sutra DVD is what concieved him. If i'm not mistaken DVD's were something that was big around 1999.

This episode was okay but nothing to prattle on about. Bart's knowledge of the carnal arts and culinary skills were surprising... how'd he know all that and not be able to piece together that the next kid might be a third girl? By now I'm pretty used to Bart alternating between dumb as a post and super sleuth, but not in the same episode.

Funniest part of the ep was the school closings. "We were just messing with Bart Simpson."

Here's a nice disection IGN's review:

“What’s the matter boy? Don’t you know me? I’m your buddy! I love you boy.” – Bart Simpson

It’s always heartwarming to see a lapdog and its owner reconciled, especially when the rekindled love comes about because they remembered the good times. This week’s IGN review was a fawning love letter, not so much for any of this episode’s original content but just because Zombie Simpsons opened the nostalgia valve all the way. As Dave said in our chat, the Plow King was “fan service” and, lo and behold, the mere appearance of the Plow King, however jokeless it may have been, “brought a smile”. As always, I’ve edited out the synergy.

This episode felt like the work of a guest writer. That's not necessarily such a terrible thing at this point, but there was definitely a weird feeling to it.

Is Sideshow Bob going to get a bigger role in a later episode this season? I like to see Bebe Nuworth play her "Lilith" character as Bob's new wife. If this was the Island of Brothers, where was Cecil?

Well, a plotline for later this season (or next, if the episode is held back until then) is going to have
Bob moving next door to the Simpsons' family.
