The Simpsons now unpopular?

Not to drag discussion of Family Guy further in a thread about THE SIMPSONS, but how is the 4th and 5th seasons considered part of the original seasons? I was under the impression that the 1st-3rd seasons, (ya know, the pre-cancellation ones) were the original seasons.

As far as The Simpsons and the merchandise and all that goes, it is true that the show is still pretty popular thanks to the likes of syndication, but yeah, there really isn't to much merch. as far as toys and stuff goes. The extent of merchandise I see is board games(Simpsons Monopoly, Simpsons Clue) small novelty items(key chains, beer bottle openers) and some clothing(especially boxer shorts emblazoned with Homer, for some reason).

And of course the DVD's are still pretty popular, and the last few Simpsons video games(Road Rage, Hit and Run, The Simpsons Game) have been decent to good, and have sold pretty well, well enough to be considered Greatest Hits(PS2, PS3, PSP) or Platinum Hits(Xbox, Xbox 360). I'd say that another Simpsons video game sometime in the near future seems inevitable.

Oh, please, if you have a thread citicizing Simpsons, you can count on it being compared to other animated sitcoms these days, especially South Park, Family Guy, etc. - a comparison which will almost inevitably have one side favor the latter.

DVDs and CD's? That's because 75% of those DVDS have the original, classic episodes known as seasons 1-10.
And the video games? My selection is limited, but from what I've played thus far, the games are good.
But games =/= show, and the show is what's over its head here.

As for the fourth and fifth being part of the original seasons: Because Family Guy was cancelled for three and a half years, but brought back. When Futurama returns, people will still consider it part of the same series.

Yeah, and how many times in a Family Guy thread whenever South Park gets dragged into the arguement, people start complaining, because they are trying to get back to the main focus of the thread? We're talking about The Simpsons, not about how much the cutaway jokes are being used on Family Guy. It seems to me that many members here don't like the Family Guy Vs South Park or Family Guy Vs. Simpsons threads anymore, especially when said members happen to like all three shows.

But the video games are considered merchandise, and since someone mentioned that Simpsons merchandise wasn't prevalent anymore, I proceeded to point out that these last few games were indeed popular.

Then why is it that season six through now wouldn't be considered part of "the original series"? The way CaptianHero put was that these last few seasons weren't part of the "original series". I'm not trying to take what he said out of context, but the way I've seen it explained on the internet is that the pre-cancellation episodes are the ones that tend to be considered the originals, and that once the show did make it's comeback it had somehow changed.

Well come on, with a thread title like this, you're inevitably going to see people compare it with similar modern sitcoms.

I was the one who mentioned merchandise in the first place, why?
To give a bit of backup in my argument that Simpsons has declined in popularity.

As for the video games being popular: well that's the games, not the show.
The video games are good.

Back to topic, I'd say the show started losing steam toward the end of season 11, since then it's just been steadily digging its own grave, there have been a few decent episodes, such as "Day of the Jackanapes," "Trilogy of Error," "The Italian Bob," etc.

But this season has hardly had me laughing, at least two episodes have recycled plots that were done a lot better in Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song, last Sunday's just wasn't funny, and the guest stars gimmick is becoming quite frequent when it used to be an occasional thing.

And "somehow changed?" Umm, yeah, it has changed, it has gotten a bit bad in quality in recent seasons, but at least it's not way over its head, I remember reading Seth said it could end in the next couple of years, but at least he's got an idea of when to quit.

Someone here is taking it too personal.. (Sarcasm)

DVD's and Video Games and other memorrilia are merchandise as well which they still sell. The rest of your post sounds like a rant riddled with opinions.

Finally then.
