The Simpsons - "No Loan Again, Naturally" - Talkback [3/8]

Heh...this episode was pretty good.

The plot wasn't insane, it focused more on the family, there weren't many guest stars...at all. And some pretty good moments to boot.

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:

-the couch gag where the family's couch dies and they have to buy a new one at a "couch ranch"
-the Mardi Gra party
-Homer attempting to hang himself but snapping the entire tree and the tree totalling the car
-Bart bringing the picture frame of him making a face before the picture
-Homer pretending to be Jesus
-Homer actually strangling Bart (for the first time in a while!)
-Ned potrayed as evil will a "Detroit Lions fan" t-shirt (living in the Metro Detroit area myself, I got an extra laugh out of this)
-Homer making Grandpa live in the Simpsons home
-Homer yelling at Bart and Lisa to play badminton in the house when he's actually watching badmintion on TV
-The Simpsons in the homeless shelter
-Homer criticizing the neighborhood at the end

I don't know what Groening is doing for these episodes, but IMO it's a step in the right direction. This episode (and last weeks episode) are major improvements from the last few seasons.

8.6/10

This...was...excellent!

Yay!!!

I was laughing all through this. Swear to the Deity, this is an instant classic!

Fave moment:

Homer (giving a house tour to muckraking reporter): There's a poltergeist in the closet...(opens closet door to reveal sheet-wearing Bart)

Poltergeist: WOOOO! I died when my dad sat on me!

Homer: Why you little -! (chokes poltergeist) I'm the victim here!

LOLOLOL! And this:

Flanders: Your dad lives with me now!

Granpa: Flanders feeds me people food!

Homer: Well, you can't argue with that!

And this:

(The Flanders and the Simpsons pose for a group picture. Bart makes a face. Lisa puts a framed picture of a smiling Bart in front of Bart's grimacing face. He puts a pic of his grimacing face in front of the smiling picture.)

Bart: Evil triumphs again! (Lisa pops him one) Owww!!

Man I was so bummed after last week's embarrassment...and now this. I'm floored. This episode reminds me of the first few years of the series...when I'd be on the floor laughing...and I feared those days were gone...

But this is a triumph. One great one-liner after the other, everyone perfectly (and endearingly) in character...even Homer was back to his lovable obliviousness...it's like he got his soul back.

I'm so happy!!!! :D:D:D

I'm really starting to hate this 4 act format. Why? The intro/couch gag seem to be the only things worth sitting through because the show's remainder segments seem as long as the commercial breaks.

Anyway, the episode seemed like it spent the longest time lingering on the segments that should've been cut shorter. IMO, I would have liked to witness the Simpsons living in the homeless shelter for a longer period and have Ned kick out their replacments because they were worse than the Simpsons.

Otherwise, this just seemed like a sloppy mish-mash. (Also, "The Evil Ned" is the name of an episode idea I came up with.)

2/5, a solid "Meh"

Yeah, isn't that kind of an insulting stereotype? That the tomboy is always a burgeoning lesbian? Not to mention the bookworm not interested in clothes and boys (Velma from Scooby Doo)?

That was pretty amazing. I haven't seen a Simpsons episode that good in a very, very long time.
9/10
I laughed for about 15 minutes due to the couch ranch gag.
