The Simpsons Movie takes in 29 million on its opening day!

Well...I don't think this movie doing well is going to strike a blow to 3-D or anything. And it probably won't do much for 2-D. It's doing well has nothing to do with the way it's animated. It's the Simpsons, and the film is being marketed like crazy. I'm glad it's doing well, though.
 
True, this isn't going to make a dent in 3-D, and that's not what I was saying. What's cool is that this proves that audiences WILL go to see a 2-D movie if its subject is something they're interested in...that there is no prejudice against 2-D in the minds of the moviegoing public. That rocks IMO. There should be room for both forms of animation on the big screen.

lol We can't forget there was some 3d with 2d toon shaders on it in the film.

It was still a pretty good movie and the look was awesome.
 
Thats great news and its good to see that we are finally getting the simpsons movie seeing hows its been rumored to happen since like the mid 90's. I cant wait to see it!!!
 
I want to see if how successful this movie will be. Hopefully, it will break The Rugrats Movie record for being the most successful animated movie based on an animated series.
Since Spongebob couldn't break that record, here's hoping the Simpsons can!
 
South Park was also up against Wild Wild West and was rated R, you have to remember. Not much chance of it beating a rated G movie for all ages.
 
Saw it yesterday.

I. Loved. It. Spoilers:

Everyone in character with wonderful embellishments. Nice handling of secondary characters like Ned Flanders - sure, he's ridiculed a bit for his piousness, but he's also given his due as a genuinely decent guy. Loved the Marge/Homer stuff - that's what puts this show waaaaayyy above its imitators. Great comic timing on all the slapstick - haven't seen such mastery since the Spongebob Squarepants movie. My only complaint is the Lisa subplot. I like Lisa, and her anxiousness to educate the town to its environmental peril is totally in character, but I would have preferred more Bart/Lisa interplay to the mini-drama about her latest new boyfriend.

I stayed through to the end credits. Funny stuff, it was worth it. And a 71 million opening day is FABULOUS. I believe - someone correct me if I'm wrong - that's Pixar territory, isn't it? While I think the film is frontloaded a bit, that's still a great haul. I'd pay to see a sequel - thank you, Maggie. :D

Definitely buying this on DVD. Hope there's great extras, especially involving the voice actors. This flick gets an A.
 
Wow, already over 70 million?!
By next week it will have definitely beaten the Rugrats Movie record. Not to mention this will be the most successful 2D animated movie since......
....Brother Bear, I guess. And that was in 2003.
