The Simpsons Movie news: Maggie says her first word! ... Again.

From The National Enquirer (the article doesn't exist anymore):

The forever silent daughter of Homer and Marge Simpson utters her first words in the new blockbuster feature The Simpsons Movie.

And The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that the film's writers have set themselves up for more features to come when 2-year-old Maggie utters "SEQUEL!" in the film's closing credits.

"Leave it to creator Matt Groening, producers James Brooks and Sam Simon, and their clever team to make the big leap from TV to film and open up a whole new era for the 20-year-old cartoon," said an insider. "Early word is that the movie is a smash, and there are many more features to follow.

"And it's all launched when little Maggie takes the pacifier out of her mouth long enough to utter one simple word."

The Simpsons Movie is due out July 27 after a special yellow carpet premiere with the filmmakers in Springfield, Vt., on July 21.

One of the producers said in an interview that Bart's wang is no longer there, as they couldn't get the PG-13 with it exposed. So they covered it up with a sticker that says "WAIT FOR THE EUROPEAN VERSION"....problem is, I couldn't tell if he was joking.

I doubt that. The show is mega-popular and well-known(nosedive in quality aside) and it has fans around the world. It's already been named "The Movie to see this summer" (at least in New York magazine), so I really doubt it's going to fail...
But we won't know for sure until it premieres...

Sounds to me like a misquote. In the BBC video interview I posted (the one with the clips of the movie) Al Jean says that IF it didn't make it in, they were going to put a little thing about the European version, but the way his comments were phrased seemed to imply that they didn't have to do that.

Allow me to be the 1st to say, "Big whoop!" Maggie already said "Daddy" a few years earlier. Which brings me to my next query: what big shockers can this movie contain that we haven't already seen on the show? Maude Flanders is dead. We learned the Comic Book Guy's 1st name. Aunt Patty has already been outed.

The best thing to do would have been to release the movie as the series finale, but 20th Century Fox didn't even get that right.

They could Mr. Burns sweet release. I mean, it's not like they use him for much anymore, he's just basically a second Abe now(as if the first wasn't annoying enough). But, if any perosn deserves it, it's that godawfully annoying sob-story Moe.

Enquirer is best known for headlines like "Flesh-eating ducks invade Arkansas", "Abraham Lincoln rises from the dead to sing showtunes" or last month's ultra-weird (and admittedly pretty funny) "Babies found living aboard TITANIC wreckage. How do they breathe?!"

They devote only a small column here and there to entertainment news, and it's always sarcastic and derisive. This article is clearly just a jab at the Simpsons running out of ideas.

You're confusing the National Enquirer with the Weekly World News. NE does celebrity news, WWN covers any other bizarre news such as Bigfoot campaigning for president.

The history of Maggie's spoken dialogue...

7F07 "Bart vs. Thanksgiving": "It's your fault I can't talk!"
8F08 "Flaming Moe's": "Moe."
9F08 "Lisa's First Word": "Daddy."
2F03 "Treehouse of Horror V": "This is indeed a disturbing universe."
3F01 "Home Sweet Homediddily-dum-doodily": "Daddy-doodily".

I think that's about it. Around Season 7, the novelty wore off.

She also speaks in 9F12 "Brother from the Same Planet" (She burps, but sounds a lot like "Bart") and in AABF01 "Treehouse of Horror IX" ("Very well, I'll drive!")

BUT

"Daddy" is the only time Maggie has officially spoken. 7F07 was a fantasy. 8F08 was a hallucination. 9F12 can be dismissed as a burp. 2F03 and AABF01 are THOH episodes, therefore out of continuity. In 3F01, she doesn't say an actual word.

Personally, I'm getting tired of the movie crew revealing this kind of stuff before the movie airs. Seriously, what's the point? I certainly wasn't expecting Maggie to speak in the film, so why ruin the surprise?

No, I'm pretty sure the National Enquirer is in fact a load of crap that nobody is supposed to believe. There are more than one of these, you know.

Thank you - I had a feeling there was one more after Season 7 that I was missing. And yeah, most of them are fantasies or hallucinations or Halloween episodes, but in the scripts, they're still technically considered dialogue for Maggie.
