The Simpsons - "Million Dollar Maybe" - Talkback [1/31]

YOU thought it was terrible, I thought it was great.

What I meant was there aren't a high amount of positive posts, not saying you guys should change your opinions.

I liked this episode. I felt kind of bad when the nurses decided to ruin the old people's fun by dishwashing the Zii. They should have had more to the subplot though because it felt really short.

I'm glad Homer used his winnings for his family and not for something stupid for himself. Too bad Homer hadn't told Marge about his money sooner so he wouldn't have had to secretly buy things and hide them where the family would find them.

The appearance of Spider-Pig in the beginning made me think why didn't he become a pet for the Simpsons like Santa's Little Helper or Snowball?

I had the same question. At least with the "MyPod" and "Steve Mobs," they were being quite harsh towards Steve Jobs and the hipster culture Apple has had a major role in creating. Not that that ever stopped The Simpsons from calling out targets long ago, but still. Perhaps a sign that we have too many real-life Miguel Sanchez's out there.

But with the Funtendo Zii, all they showed was people having fun playing the system and having their lives magically transformed by it. It was basically a Wii ad. Do they think Nintendo would sue them for implying that a Nintendo Wii isn't durable enough to be run through a dishwasher? I'm not about to try and find out with mine, but I'd bet it isn't. They've done far more direct parodies of Nintendo several times in the past, so what's stopping them now?

As the rest of episode went, it's definitely one of the poorer ones in recent memory.

The B-plot started awkwardly when Lisa showed up at the Retirement Castle for absolutely no reason, and finished even more awkwardly when the focus shifted to the Zii. Lisa's supposed to be responsible, so shouldn't she have bought what she went to the store for, and not the Zii, or at least both of them? It seems like the whole ordeal could have been two plots instead of just one.

Meanwhile, wouldn't Marge have been even slightly suspicious of how the family started stumbling on all the luxuries they could never afford before, according to this episode, even though The Simpsons only have money troubles when it's convenient to the plot and the rest of the time, they can afford anything at all, like expensive globetrotting vacations?

And what's the deal with Ricardo Bomba? Is he dead? If not, will he be soon? What a terrible way to introduce a new character, even if he was hackneyed to begin with.

Hey, why didn't they call this episode "Lisa Gets a Zii?"

Can't she just be visiting her grandpa? I mean your acting like she needed a whole logical reason to go. It's called a setting that's what it's there for to help lay out the plot. it's no different from Homer going to the store to and then finding a cat. Lisa is responsible but also caring. She thought ok I see Mr. Burns is having fun why can't my grandpa and his friends have fun too so she bought the Zii again this helped fuel the plot if she had gone and bought the converter it would have been the end of the story.

They already explained that. She thought it was from the government. And they aren't always poor when it convenient to the plot as other vacation episodes have shown they are always thrifty when vacationing they have money stored, They've recieved the trip in form of a prize or prize money, or They earned it with extra money. Everyone needs to stop nitpicking I understand you not liking it but please come up with better excuses why and not just little quirks that nobody but you would notice.

Although that wasn't directed directly to me, I still care about the show, and not that episodes are churned out. I honestly think that the last two seasons have been a great improvement after a several season- rut of dullness.

Your opinion is not the official, end-all opinion, because the people who do care may find it still entertaining. Like me.

Yes, if someone doesn't like something doesn't mean it's bad but saying "that's your opinion!" when you don't agree with something over and over again doesn't help anything.

Of course it's so and so's opinion. We don't have to put "IMO" in front of everything we say.

With that said, I don't get why FOX is still keeping this show alive. They don't put out really good episodes like they used to. Every once in awhile they'll put something great but most of the time it can be so painfully dull these days and I had hopes for the 21st season.

At least FG still makes me laugh and I've been loving TCS.

You're right, the scene made sense, but it lacked humor and seemed to reek of time-wasting, plot filler, and that was sad because it was about the only part of the episode that didn't suck.

That's the beauty of when the Simpsons ideas of the past work. Good fiction, unlike the truth, has to make sense. Unfortunetly...

The ultimate 'nitpick' with this episode is the conflict between Homer and Marge was it was thinner than Twiggy at Jenny Craig. Regardless of 'classic era' Homer or the modern Homer, he would've normally gone nuts with excitement and went on a spending spree, went broke and then the family would've been back at square one. Unfortunetly, Homer's character was twisted out of character to make the main plot last more than 8 minutes.

The show makes between 3 to 5 times selling merchandise worldwide than it does being a TV show. Due to this, the quality of the episodes are not important just as long as the brand name remains recognizeable. It is no wonder since the quality of the writing is no longer an issue.

Of course I know that it's an opinion. It's just that he acts like any other opinion than his is wrong, and is demeaning towards that person.

I really hate arguing with you guys, because it seems like you're all self-proclaimed elitists who don't give the other side a chance.

I don't consider ME to be the eletist, but I defend the first 8 seasons of the show and I consider them to be the benchmark of true Simpsons quality. So when I read people's opinions about how the show is "Getting better", or it's a return to 'classic' status--even though I know it's all subjective--I still feel like the first 8 years of the show have been insulted when someone calls the current show 'awesome.'

People have been saying the show has been 'getting better' every season since seaon 10 and your words are the same sentiment that was expressed every year on various message boards about how the last two seasons are 'better' than the two preceding those. It's a never ending cycle and you'd think there'd be a universally accepted veiw of a second or third classic era, but there is not.

Although I think the show perpetually 'getting better' is a pipe-dream, I do understand the enthusiasm of wishing, hoping, praying the show is getting better to keep the dream alive. :p

Well IMO this show has consistently been excellent From season 1 to season 21 .I'd say ignore the critics most of them jump on the bandwagon of hating the past 10 seasons or so for some reason .The funny thing is most of the critics still watch the show just to say the same old criticism each week , oh and this was a great episode btw

EDIT: Morgon Spurlock didn't care for the last ten seasons that much considering 90 percent of the clips on the 20th Anniversery Special came from the first 10 seasons.

BTW, I don't call the past ten seasons "The Simpsons." I call it "Zombie Simpsons" becasue the last decade is a show that has no heart and no brains yet it will not die.

Well the rest of the world calls it the Simpsons and its not going anywhere, sorry. You want the Simpsons to die well you could contribute by not watching it,isn't the first 10 seasons out on dvd?

Not sure why so many people are complaining, I thought this episode was really good.

So many laughs throughout (Spider Pig at the beginning, Mr. Burns playing the Zii, Ricardo's 15 seconds of fame :p, "Calm down Homer.." *dies* , and breakdancing caveman Homer) ending with Homer and Marge singing their wedding toast song in a hot air balloon in the sunset. That was definitely one of the sweetest endings to an episode I've seen in a while. Homer is becoming less and less of a jerkass..

The only thing that bothered me was the subplot with Lisa and the Zii. So the nurses just take the Zii and put it in the dishwasher without consequence? Why?

All and all, just an enjoyable episode. I hope the show keeps it up.

The humor in the episode shows that at least The Simpsons hasn't completely died. It's one of the few good episodes of the post season 19 period (season 19 is when the show started to really go downhill)
Oh yeah, Coldplay appeared in this episode, that's enough to win me over.
