The Simpsons - "Loan-a-Lisa" - Talkback [10/3]

If I could count the number of times we've had a "Simpson helps Nelson gain confidence" episode over the last episode, I'd probably be more entertained than watching this episode.

The B-plot didn't help either. Who wants to watch Homer and Marge work the system?

Was a very funny episode. I wish the newer seasons could at least remain at this level of quality.

The show would actually be fully watchable again.

That was better than the season premiere last week, that's for sure.

So the lesson this week is that you don't have to graduate from college to be one of the richest people in the world. I think my favorite part was the last scene, with Nelson and Lisa skating around the ice rink as 'friends.' Their reactions to knocking over everyone they come across was funny.

The episode in general was alright. I didn't think it was anything special, but it had that heartwarming feel that Lisa episodes tend to do best. It maybe because I find Lisa and Nelson's little romantic moments to be adorable (I tend to like the opposite attract pairing).

I thought the gag at the end dragged on, but it immediately redeemed itself with the Facebook joke which just made it funnier for some reason. Also, nice points on the Up parody - even using the actual score from the movie.

First good episode of the season, the plots were both funny and the setup was nice, although Granpa already gave the Simpsons their inheritance back in Season 5 and the guest stars worked: 9/10. Some higlights:

  • Bart paying Gil to walk up in the down escalator for a whole day
  • Homer: It's A cat, I'm not sure if it's THE cat
  • Wiggum's reaction towards Lou undercover, and the slow-motion joke
  • Chalmers and Skinner fighting to work for Nelson for $11 per hour
  • Homer coming back to Chris Hansen again and again..NEVER!
  • And Nelson and Lisa skating together: HAW HAW! Sorry!

And I loved the references to "Lisa's Date with Density" and to Old Christine.
