The Simpsons - "Judge Me Tender" - Talkback [5/23]

I didn't watch last night's episode but from everything I read about it there's a world of difference between "The Springfield Files" and what aired last night.

Kryten, within that one post are making the steepest slippery slope simplifications i've ever seen. I mean if I inferred the Simpson family by extension for becoming mindless, whored out Fox drones was out of character in "Judge Me Tender" would you seriously say some nonsense like "well if you think that's out of place you might as well think it's out of place for [insert something that happened in the classic era]." I mean I don't make "Classic" Simpsons vs. Modern Simpsons preferences much anymore, but can you honestly not conceive of an intelligent member of society who values good art being remotely embarrassed watching "Judge Me Tender" with friends and having to put up terrible writing, terrible narration, terrible-sterile animation, and terrible humor, and so on just for a few remote salvageable moments of ok gags? It's silly to act like you're superior because you dumb yourself down to enjoy it and as far as I'm concerned your feeling sorry for people who don't like wacky, poorly done crossovers is tantamount to feeling sorry for people who don't enjoy Paully Shore comedies.

Here's the "Dead Homer Society" review:

"I’ve still never seen the 24 episode of Zombie Simpsons, but it couldn’t have been any more whorish than last night’s extended American Idol promo. Why anyone would want to watch Simon Cowell pretend to make fun of himself for ten minutes is beyond me, but that was nothing compared to the scene with the rest of the Idol judges. It would be difficult to imagine a more formulaic, by-the-numbers, and downright lifeless segment. They had the cast of another television show on, and had them act like themselves. That would be bad enough by itself but, on top of that, they didn’t do anything but serial monologues, one after another. They’ve got plenty of celebrity cameos and recycled ideas. Those are kinds of entertainment, right?"

Do not presume you know me, and how I think.

I didn't even watch the most recent episode, because I KNEW it would be crap. I'm just saying... the show's been whored out before. Many times. As early as Season 3. Hell, if you consider the incessant merchandising, it was a whore from the very beginning.

You're acting like this is recent.

Oh, and posting someone else's review basically says "this other guy on the internet agrees with me. Therefore, I'm right and everyone else is an idiot." Talk about logical fallacies....

I thought this was an OK episode. And Im glad that "American Idol" only appeared briefly. And my favorite parts were Lisa selling band candy and the contestant singing Happy Birthday.

And you don't know the past.

Micheal Jackson wasn't advertised as "Guest starring MJ!", it was a supposed to be an episode that had a mental patient thinking he was MJ (aka Leon Kompowski). As for the critic, Groening fought, and lost, trying to keep the episode from happening and as for the rest of the rest of these "crossover" epsiodes, I didn't really care for the X Files episode, but at least I wasn't cowering over whether or not the current staff was borderline incompetent on making it decent. (For the record, I'd give the "Springfield Files" a solid 'c'.")

As for the merchandising, there was a lull between Season 3 and season 11 where the number of Simpsons merchandise was at the least. It wasn't until the "World of Springfield" talking figures came around that there was another great resurgence.

No, it means: "I agree with that opinion," but the fact that you read all that as hatred and/or slander might say more about you than me.
