The Simpsons - "Double, Double, Boy in Trouble" - Talkback [10/19]

You know, they did a similar plot in the comic book (only then bart switched places with a teen idol rather than a rich kid, but the plot was the same).

The episode was pretty ugh, and the only parts I really enjoyed was Mr. Burns treating Simon-Bart like a trophy and Lenny winning the lottery.

"Drop that lemonade down your pants Smithers, and make sure you keep it wet every hour on the hour".

I got a few laughs, but the state of The Simpsons is pretty close to the state of "legacy" newspaper funnies. The stuff we're getting is super-old and far from innovative, yet nobody can do anything about it because the creators have the most enviable job security there is, and it just keeps going on and on.

While there were a few moments I liked, and I can't say they've done this kind of plot before, this won't be a modern classic by any means. Also, I felt that the two Barts should have had a few slight differences other than a British accent; it just looked like the same model sheet Bart recycled in both scenes.

Cringe moment (TM) of the episode: Marge singing "Scrubbing You"

I actually liked the characterization and pacing in this episode, until the ending where they crammed a ski resort trip and plot resolution into what was literally about 3 minutes. And even then, most of it wasn't funny.
