The Simpsons - "Dangerous Curves" - Talkback [11/9]

Well actually now that I think about it, it wasn't that bad. The plot is way tired but at least this wasn't completely about a marriage crisis, just a few scenes. It was better than That 90s Show but then again that isn't saying much. Despite messing up continuity this episode had a few laughs actually. Overall average I'd say. Not much of a surprise as recent flashback episodes usually are. The next episode of the season should be better.

Also it was nice to see Maude again.
 
Wow, I can't believe how awful that was. Alot of it was just awkward and confusing, like Bart and Lisa acting like they were in a failing marriage (which was also just kind of creepy), the whole continuity-ruining stuff with Flanders, and that ending part with the cars splitting into two at the roundabout. That confused the heck out of me.

There were actually two things I found funny-- the ride/glide joke, or rather, Marge's comment after it, and the "single-entendre".

I was flicking back and forth between this and the Raccoons on Teletoon while watching it, so I guess a couple of parts might've made more sense, but still... That was perfect evidence of how past its prime the show is.
 
Man... they've gone to the "Homer & Marge relationship drama" well so many times that they've had to go to the "Homer & Marge relationship drama in a previously untold origin story" well so many times that now that has run dry. As long as there are good writers on the staff there can always be some comedy wringed out of these tired concepts, but I don't think there can ever be another legitimately good episode unless they somehow manage to come up with something they've never done before. And to be fair, that is very difficult after 20 years. Can't be mad at them for trying, but it still isn't working.
 
Considering this show has 19 years of continuity taking place over the course of less than one year, episodes like this don't bother me much anymore. Last years "90's show" irritated me more because it directly crapped on a much better episode (Homerpalooza), but this was just another exploration of Marge and Homer's relationship.

(I even liked the episode where they met at summer camp as kids)

As the episode goes, I liked the three intertwined stories (present, good memory, bad memory). It was nice to see Ned+Maude again, and considering (years ago) Ned was revealed to be 60 I have no problem with his being noticeably older than the earliy simpsons.
