The Simpsons - "Boy Meets Curl" - Talkback [2/14]

Great episode. It was weak in some parts, but I still think it delivered.

And for goodness sake, for the same people coming in EVERY week saying how much you hated it, then don't watch it. It's ridiculous.

The joke here is that Canada was responding to the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic games (which was directed by Chinese director Zhang Yimou) by having their opening ceremonies be directed by Canadian director Ivan Reitman. Of course, given how most of Reitman's works are not in the same calibur as Yimou's, the end result is basically all the countries being introduced a la Ghostbusters.

Personally, the opening ceremonies joke would have worked better if the director was David Cronenberg, given how:

1. His body of work would result in a very twisted opening ceremonies;

2. He's 100% Canadian (whereas Reitman is a Czech refugee who moved to Canada when he was a child).

I didn't like tonights episode, it was just weird to me. Lisa's subplot, no I hated it. Doesn't help that I dislike her character. Marge/Homer plot horrible. I'm sorry, this was one of my least favorite episodes of the season. Just when I thought this could be a favorite season of mine since the classics.

It's misguided hope.

Then if the same people are coming back and complaining you don't like, then don't read their reviews. It's ridiculous.

Can't say I enjoyed this episode much. I actually thought the Lisa subplot was better than the A-plot, and that's not saying much.

1. I thought TPatP was a good episode. Any source on that claim? Besides, accoridng to the verdict, no one is to mention the incident ever again, under penalty of torture. Ergo, Armin Tamzarian is thus required to pretend to have always been Seymour Skinner and is thus pretending to have been the fetus responsible for costing Agnes her Olympic dreams, even though we all know it wasn't him.

The only real questions are whether the torture penalty could have been enforced in Vancouver if Tamzarian had blown his cover, and if his time spent curling would have counted as suitable torture.

2. Arguing over Simpsons canon is one thing, but one shouldn't take jokes too seriously. Many of them are completely made up, like how Springfield is bordered by Ohio, Nevada, Kentucky, and Maine.

Didn't occur to me during the episode, but now that you mention it I can see the similarities.

I kinda liked the episode, even though I hated the opening ceremony shtick. It's like the writers never saw the movie(s), and if they haven't SHAME ON THEM! It would've been cool they lit the torch by crossing the streams, oh wait, I just realized that they did kinda do that. Seriously though, how *****in' would it have been if Gozer were part of the opening ceremonies.

I also found the line Costas gave about being "..vampires sucking on emotions." ghastly ironic, considering the tragic death of luger Nodar Kumaritashvili that happened a few days before broadcast.

Note: the asterisks are covering the "female dog" word. Geez, going beyond seven words, huh.
