The Simpsons - "Any Given Sundance" - Talkback [5/4]

Even Skinner and Charmers were with the Simpson family?

Is the Sundance festival in Utah or Colorado?

Glad this aired in the May sweeps rather than the time of the real Sundance festival in January since it would have been at the time of the recent WGA Writer's Strike.

The surprise in the episode: Marge thinking they made Candyland into a family movie based on a board game but it turns out to be some kind of adult junkie movie or something like that?

Yeah, Marge's responses to all the happy titled movies was funny, because that's how they usually are...most indie movies that feature happy sounding titles are ironically not.

"Chalmskin"

Sorry, just had to throw that in there. It was a decent episode,a although looking back at it, it didn't really go anywhere. There were no real lessons learned and Skinner and Chalmers were the highlight of the episode for me, especially when they talked to John C. Reilly. I love Lisa episodes, but I feel they could have done a lot more with this episode. The focus-shifting to Nelson was inspired; poor kid, at least we now have confirmation that he's seriously neglected. Although now he's more pathetic (in an nice way) wather than angry, as in earlier seasons.

Since the seasons over, I can only hope that next year can be as good as this year.

As soon as Skinner asked Lisa to make a movie on her family I knew we would end up with a 'You made us look like monsters!" type of reaction...sheesh talk about obvious --

Yeah, Jarmusch is a fairly big anme independent film directed, primarily earning a name for himself for 1984's critically acclaimed Stranger Than Paradise, which has recently been accepted into the Library of Congress.

I liked the episode for some of the film jokes and that Sundance's films are very often an overblown, flash-in-the-pan type affair. I also noticed the reference to Capturing the Freidmans in teh similarly titled Simpsons movie and how the end to the Nelson film was ripped right off of The 400 Blows. One odd thing that bugged me was that I didn't think that the Comic Book Guy really had enough class to attend a film festival. I always thought he was more of the comicbook convention type.
