"The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special - In 3-D! On Ice!" Talkback (Spoilers)

And to be fair,

Would YOU say your own show that pays your way out of the dumpster sucks? What else do you expect them to say?

That Dan Casteleneta (sp) impersonator was just dead on freaky.

Frankly I thought the Spongebob anniversary special was better. And funnier. The Simpsons special wasn't bad at all, but I just felt it dragged here and there.

But I will say that Matt Groening hit the nail on the head when he said "Some people say they love Homer because Marge loves him, but I think people love Homer because Homer loves Marge." And that's very true. There's been some griping here about episodes that dwell on Homer and Marge's relationship, but it's that relationship that's the glue of the show. It's reassuring, it's touching, it smooths out the rough edges of the Simpsons' cold, cold world. It's been a stormy relationship at times, but at the core it's rock solid. I don't mean to change the subject, but the Homer and Marge relationship is the kind of relationship Cosmo and Wanda used to have on Fairly Odd Parents. And when that relationship fell apart, that show fell apart.

God forbid that should ever happen on The Simpsons.

One of the 'read between the lines' messages I got was how the writers hate it when people online complain about their work not being good "ten years ago" because of "Nostalgia" but then then have an anniversery special because of Nostalgia. Second of all, if some people complained--SO WHAT!? Go back and watch whatever episode/era/whatever you didn't like and tell me with a straight face the reason the episode wasn't funny was because of internet snark. Lastly, Matt Waterburn's comment about "Not being as funny 10 years ago" made no sense. Yeah, it's a parody of people who say "It wasn't as good as it was ten years ago", but all that does is shift the focus away from current criticism just to make fun of people the writers don't agree with and it even implies the show itself is somehow this objective, pristine diety, above critique.
