The Simpson Movie (1 week till it's released)

To people who have seen this film:

How does the movie begin? Is it a spin on the opening credits from the show? And whats the counch gag? (If there is one)

Unfortunately, considering how big a Simpsons fan I used to be, I'm really indifferent to this film. Whereas it used to be the best thing on television, animated or otherwise, it's now just another cartoon. It lost its magic some years ago now. Frankly, the trailers make me cringe. :(

It begins with an itchy and scratchy cartoon at the cinema. Homer asks why they should pay for something they can see on TV, and says everybody in the cinema is a sucker, pointing at the real audience (You).

It then goes into an updated version of the title sequence with a blackboard gag but no couch gag. The music then merges into Greenday's rendition of the theme song and the film begins.

Hmm.

Well, It's certainly good - and a LOT better than any of the recent series. But its not great by any means, compared to (for example South Park Movie, or Team America)...

but Its nice to get the original characters back - the new Homer who seems to have had a stroke in the new series is horrible, but in the film he's normal again.

I'd give it 7/10. With some real Laugh out loud moments!

I'll be seeing it but as someone who felt the series should of ended in 2001 and loved series 1-9 (10,11,12 were just o.k)
how does it compare,is it as good as 1991-1997 episodes?

The next two weeks are great for film-lovers. On Sunday, I'm seeing Transformers and Harry Potter, then the following Sunday I'm seeing Simpsons. The unlimited pass at cineworld is truely great!

Yeah, it's a good few weeks. My list goes like this:

Last week: Die Hard 4.0
Last night: Harry Potter 5
Saturday: Hairspray
Wednesday: The Simpsons
Saturday: Transformers

The film really IS fantastic...I wasn't a huge fan of the storyline, particularly Lisa's whose I felt was a little 'already done', but the satire just made up for it. :p

It was amusing, because we were sat in an audience of kiRAB, and to hear the number of laughs between a really obvious joke and a subtle one or one that referenced something was interesting. There's something for everyone...:D

I saw it today and really enjoyed it. Probably the best "TV animation to big screen movie" adaptation since Beavis and Butthead.

Even the enjoyable South Park movie was more patchy than this.

It's fun - sags here and there (even only momentarily) - but overall it's a bit of a triumph for this genre.

Do go and see this.

I'm looking forward to SO many films at the moment, which very rarely happens for me! What with Harry Potter (going to see it next week when my boyfriend is home, he made me promise to wait), Hairspray, Transformers, and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry in September (big Sandler and James fan :o)

Getting back on topic with The Simpsons, I've followed it for eighteen years - I don't care whether the film is good, bad or mediocre, the very fact it's going to be on the big screen is enough to get me excited! How geeky and I don't care. :D I do think it's going to be good though, and I can't wait for the DVD either which I bet will be packed with extra features, just like the season releases are.

quick question:

the cineworld website won't show listings for the 27th so therefore i'm not able to book tickets for the simpsons movie yet. if i book them as soon as listings become available, will i still be able to order tivkets online? or s there some secret telephone no. i don't know anything about where people can book for the simpsons on the 27th way in advance? i'm a bit worried whether i'm going to be able to get tickets.

Loved it, wouldn't have minded it being longer either - they could've shown more of what was happening in Springfield whilst the Simpsons moved to Alaska. Would've given more scope to use some of the extended characters that were left out. Could be my favourite film ever.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was quite good.

Why was it released on a Wednesday though? I wanted to use my Orange Wednesday thing but expected it to come out on Friday, so I was pleasantly surprised when it was on yesterday. It seems that I, and many other people, were able to see it before the UK premiere even.
