The Shining missing scene - help!

I first saw The Shining when I was a kid and it was released on to video in the early 80's. Have seen it countless times since, but am convinced there is a scene that has been cut from the original release.
The scene I remember is near the end, when Shelley Duvall first realises the family are not alone in the Overlook Hotel. As she approaches the lift, the door closes and she thinks she hears voices and catches a glimpse of someone inside. When the door shuts, a party streamer drops down to the floor before her.
I was quite young, so it's possible I'm getting the clip muddled with another movie. Was sure it was The Shining though, and I'm definitely not getting confused with the blood coming out of the lift doors bit.
Can anyone help?

SounRAB about right. Can't find anything about it, but I read the book, and that's where it seems familiar from.

It says on IMDB that Kubrick cut out half an hour worth of scencs out of the original film, because he thought them unnecessary.

It did say though that the "British television network ITV screened the full US version of The Shining during the late eighties." Maybe that's what you saw?

The missing scene from The Shining takes place in a doctor's surgery where Anne Jackson explains Danny's esp to his parents. Even in the cinema release, Anne Jackson's name appears in the credits although her scene is missing.

Hmmm.... now I love this movie and first saw it when I was about 6 (heh heh, I know) and I probably getting what you are describing mixed up with the events in the book, but it does sound familiar.

Most likely you saw an old edit and never will again, though the shot could have been on a trailer somewhere.

I'm sure I remember the scene with the lift and streamer too, although you may be right and I could be visualising a scene from the book. Mind you, the first time I saw it would have been in the late eighties, so it may have been the one and only screening of the full US version that I saw, as suggested above.
