The Secret Millionaire

I'm also wondering where she got the money to make her initital investment. From the sound of what she said, everyone in Africa wants to move to the UK!

I found myself actually bored by the main man Daniel.

It wasn't that he wasn't a fundamentally decent person, it's just that he had no real character, no charisma and no real depth. He wasn't even funny, or warm or even possessed of a great sense of humour.

The other millionaires had simply worked harder, done more for themselves and were far more interesting people as a result. This guy was boring and didn't have much of a personality.

I was quite disappointed because I like this programme.

Thanks for a little of the inside story, reynard.
And I'm sure everyone on the thread hopes that health-wise you are now much improved. :)

It was a good show and I was so pleased that they didn't just show the grot spots in Sunderland, but gave glimpses of the beautiful coastal scenes as well. When they did the one in Easington all they showed were the dirty back streets as in Billy Elliot. It just makes people from other places believe the whole place is like that, and it isn't.

 That's what's bugging me about this programme now. When it first started I thought it was wonderful, but now I'm wondering just how many of those deemed worthy of having a cheque for a few thousand know that this stranger followed by a camera crew dont have an inkling that it's for The Secret Millionaire

Also I could write the script for the last part of the show. It's all getting so predictable. Same speil, same agonising over who deserves it, cue anguished shot of tortured millionaire  and same old baloney about how glad they are to help.

I'm not knocking it wholeheartedly, because a few thousand to many can be a complete life saver, and kudos to all the Millionaires who've stayed on board and taken a long term interest in those they helped.

But I just didn't like this bloke tonight.

Oh gawd, that made me weep!

Hilary is just so grounded, loved her whole attitude and you just know that she is going to remain in contact with the people that she helped out....my fave this series, oh and Nick Leslau was fab too!

My cockles are hot!:D

According to her website, she inherited some properties and then joined up with the company to build it up, but yeah it doesn't say how she could afford this, she said at the start of the show that she lived a priveliged life in Zambia. SounRAB to me like they got money when her husband started a business

I sometimes wonder just how much ground work the millionaire actually does in finding these projects or if they're picked for them by the production team. They always seem to ask at the local shop then end up in a local cafe and suddenly find a lead.

Not sure how I felt about tonights chap. I think this show is certainly a reality check to them. Each week you see the moments where it hits home how they're at one end of the scale and these people are at the other.

The people getting the gifts didn't seem that shocked this week.

Happy, successful, great human beings, and the millionaires who encountered them!

The 'changed my life' program was pretty much fantastic, touching and very inspiring.

The series may be on dodgy ground in so many respects ('when you answer the door, look surprised to see our millionaire and DON'T look at the camera crew'), but it's still a fascinating program.

During my impressionable (and idealistic) early 20's, I did residential voluntary work in a youth club in East London for a couple of years, and the people I worked with still inspire me decades later, and this series brought it all back.

Well done Channel 4. Another winner!
