The Secret Millionaire

Cheers for the replies...bit of a redundant question as it had already started by the time I posted it lol.

Glad to see he is still involved with the club...actually wish they'd done the whole programme on him, not just the first 10 minutes. Would have been great to see all the things that have happened since the programme. I wonder what happened to the kid who designed his own clothes?

Great programme last night, my tears dropped many times in the hour too, I can understand why he felt so emotional too. Those two veterans were just lovely and just eptiomised the worRAB 'we must never forget'.

It looked so dire compared to what it used to be when my parents to took the family there. I was thinking a couple years back of taking my young ones up there, unfortunately it seems like it was a good idea we didn't get to go. What a shame.

I've never heard anyone on SM state so often in a show that they're not going to give money away if they're not convinced (which is their right of course) but it almost seems to me that he's spent a lot of the show convincing himself that he doesn't have to give money if he doesn't feel like it.

Yes, I'm watching tonight's programme in Derby and I like this week's guy better than the lady who was on last week. I am full of admiration and also feel really sorry for young Sophie, who is a carer to her mum and I'm wondering how Paul is going to help her!

indie.star - you have to give us a bit more than that!

Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but it's been bugging me who this millionnaire reminded me of... I've forgotten his name but him off that Greggs advert. ;)

I think that's harsh. I expect the production company asks them to trot out a spiel about being a millionaire so they can film the recipient's reaction and to fit in with the show's title (most say exactly the same thing as each other) and hold the cheque so the camera can catch it.

I go back about 5 times a year to see family. Not all of marton is nice though. Some is, some isn't, especially up near mereside.

Of course, there are nice parts of Blackpool. My Mum lives in a lovely little area now but I was brought up in the town centre which is a complete dive.

I thought last nights programme was a good one. It was good to find out some of the stories behind the homeless people. It's such a taboo subject sometimes and they're right in that they ARE treated like 2nd class citizens.

The guy, I couldn't work him out. I kept finding myself doubting if he really could relate to these people or not. I mean (no fault of his btw) he has had a very stable and supported life so far. He appeared to live at home with his parents, he has clearly never had to go without in his life, he has been given a business (ok it was failing apparently) by his Dad.. I presume he has never worked in another job.. he has many people around him who would and did support him during his 'wall moment'.. I presume he had a breakdown of sorts. But I didn't see him cross the line last night between his safe and supported world, and actually thinking "s**t.. this could happen to anyone".. he just didn't seem to go there for me. I didn't see it in his eyes or his face.

I'm not having a go at the lad, he did very well last night. But I just didn't see a moment where he crossed the line from his world into their world. You see people a lot richer than he is breaking down in tears on this show. Nick for example, you could tell that he was very effected by what he saw. I didn't see that with last nights chap.

What also annoys me about this show is the horribly scripted "I've been hiding something from you" exchange. I can't bare to watch it. It sounRAB so painful and the "Oh?!" repsonse from the other person. It just winRAB me up. What would be wrong with..

"What I've not told you is I've done well for myself in my career.. and I'd like to share some of what I have with you"

That would sound much better. Not sure I liked the parking up his huge range rover and visiting in his suit bit either, but then I suppose these people shouldn't need to hide who they are. Difficult one. :)

Don't get me wrong, I liked last nights show, and the guy seemed a top guy. He just seemed a little too cosey and not really independant for me. Perhaps I'm being too harsh. :)

It might sound strange, but if you are interested, why not write in to the programme producers who might be able to tell you more. Failing that, you could write to the actual club provided you worded it correctly so as not to come across as just nosey but as someone who is concerned and interested in the well being of the club.

Or to Ben himself!

You would be surprised, people do answer and are genuinely pleased that people are interested.

:)

I'm not sure I'm too keen on this chap. Starting to think more and more that they are doing it for very selfish reasons, maybe even put forward for it to 'look good'.

"Kevin turns up for work at a homeless organisation. The staff have been told that he's definetely not a secret millionaire....."

Hmm, it's the 4th series, aren't people a little suspicious, i mean, a man/woman from different area ("just moved here"), wants to find out all about charities and people who 'help', plus they get followed by a camera crew, producers etc.
I find it difficult to believe they don't get found out.

She from my neck of the wooRAB origninally (Bolton), she wanted to come back here to do the programme, but the makers were worried she would be recognised.

I think she seems very nice - and she gives away a lot of money :-)
