SAW I - good film good plot :)
SAW II- decent sequel :)
SAW III- should of stopped at 2
SAW IV- the team should of packed up and left
SAW V- i dont know why i put myself through it

i am really disapointed about saw 5 most. all of them are bascily all the same story but with same people. it wasnt frightening at all. all of them beyond SAW2 are just terrible
sorry just though i'd share Lol :p

I enjoyed them all to a certain extent but not as much as the first. The one thing I enjoy about the others is how they link back to the previous films in one way or another but came out of Saw V feeling kinda like "they forgot to film the ending".

I've only recently watched the Saw films, haven't seen 5 yet though.

I think they're brilliant, but definitly agree the first one is the best one.

Couldn't really get into the fourth one.

Saw V was hilarious how they did the big montage of memories and "revelations"....but there was no twist there to reveal.
Very dull - they need to put the focus back on Jigsaw and not on that boring cop

Saw 1 was really good, because it didnt rely purely on gore and "how sick can we make this film" effects. There was actual dialogue and human emotion. It almost seemed like a really really twisted human study on how 2 people would cope in a room together knowing that their survival counted on the other one dieing.

I do enjoy some of the other saw movies... but there does seem to be a bit of a lack of thoguht and random desperate attempts to make it seem like its all tied in.

The first one is an amazing film.

The sequels aren't good, but I enjoy the overall story. Its hard to compare Saw with Saw 5, other than having Jigsaw in it, they are like totally different films, but the long running story with links backwarRAB is something I like.

Can't wait to see where Saw VI goes.

Yeah, the first one is a damn good thriller.Perhaps the best of it's kind since Se7en.

The sequel showed us that it could be done again, and be a rare above average sequel.

Saw III follwed the same tried and tested formula, and as a result suffered somewhat. It's the most difficult of the three to take seriously, but is still a decent horror movie.

The problems have really started to kick-in with Saw IV and the new writers.Saw IV dragged at times, was way too contrived for a world meant to be real (this isn't set in the same universe as Jason or Freddy) and really felt like it was all about the gore.

Only seen the 5th movie once but I enjoyed it more than IV,but this could have been because I was eagerly expecting a great twist ending. Some major plot holes are really becoming obvious at this stage.

I gave up at 4. Thought the first one was excellent, the second was good and the third inventive but ridiculous.

The 4th was execrable...

I thought that the first Saw movie was a clever new take on the horror thriller genre. The 2nd was a bit more generic but still pretty good. However the 3rd was poor and the 4th awful imho. Can't even bring myself to watch the 5th!

I like them all, and I also think each of them is flawed.
  • Saw I - worst acting of the entire series, plus the twist just doesn't work for me. It doesn't deserve to be single out as best.
  • Saw II - decent sequel, makes more sense and was a good development of the series and some good twists. However, it feels a bit pedestrian compared to the others.
  • Saw III - more emotional than the others. Although on first viewing it didn't work for me, on rewatching I think it may be the best. This is Amanda's story. I don't see how anyone can say it is "the same" as the others.
  • Saw IV - develops the history of Jigsaw, which I liked. It's still up to par with good traps, good story, good twists.
  • Saw V - the most disappointing. It tells the story of the second apprentice, but we don't get to see him interact with Amanda. The traps have become too implausible, and now that Jigsaw's long dead it's hard to believe he is still manipulating events. It felt like a linking piece.

For me it was different, firstly because the tests were based more around emotion. The earlier tests were often little more than "can you mutilate yourself if you'll die if you don't?" The III tests were about whether Jeff could forgive people who had wronged him - he himself was not really threatened.

It was also different because it was Amanda's story, and that too was based around emotion. We get to see her journey, how she was redeemed by Jigsaw's philosophy and how she ultimately failed, rejected it and and damned. And we see Jigsaw's reaction to all this - it's very much a love story, don't you think? We see clearly the traps that Jigsaw himself is in. This makes it the strongest movie, for me, and the one that most repays rewatching.

I thought the previous films were just as contrived. For example, that everyone in the nerve-gas house of Saw II should fail to get their antidote is implausible. Or that Jeff should rescue the judge, only to accidentally shoot him and so enter the final room alone - there's no way Jigsaw could have been predicted that.

Nor did I think IV was especially about the gore. It was still a psychological thriller, and still driven by Jigsaw's philosophy. "See what I see" etc. It still good twists and a classic huge misdirect.

I was being a little harsh when I wrote about Saw III following the same formula as 1 & 2.Probably not the same formula (as I wrote),but we are very familar with the whole premise by this point, though I guess that can be said about most second sequels.I feel that the predictable twists let the movie down a little, but yeah the focus on Jigsaw/Amanda's relationship really gives the movie some depth that 1 & 2 did not have.

When I stated that Saw IV was just about the traps /gore,maybe it wasn't in retrospect (Saw V certainly was though) but it felt very routine and plodding to me.Didn't help that I was confused by much of the movie as I hadn't seen the others in ages when I watched Saw IV :o
Hoffman was obviously the aprentice but I liked the unpredictable twist of it running alongside Saw III,this however has opened up a whole new can of worms (in plot holes)

A cetain death at the end of Saw IV was a bit too over the top even at this point in the franchise, but the one in Saw V topped it,in that respect.
